About Brandon Barnett

At age 39, Brandon Barnett was at a crossroads. After battling cancer twice in his twenties and with two failed marriages under his belt by his mid-thirties, the Jackson, Tn native decided to quit his job of thirteen years to make music full-time. The newly liberated songwriter holed up in an old farmhouse to focus on writing and recording songs, and to try his hand at writing for Music Row in Nashville. Brandon has written with Jonathan Singleton (Watching Airplanes, Red Light), and is navigating the Nashville songwriter scene with the guidance of Marty Dodson (Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven, Let Me Down Easy). With the singer-songwriter tunes, Barnett has cultivated a style of his own that hints of everything from Bob Wills to Smashing Pumpkins. Taking a cue from The Tallest Man On Earth and per the advice of Singleton, he recorded, produced and mixed the songs on his laptop. The result is a sparse, sometimes haunting affair that mixes elements of folk, rock and country in a fresh and unique way. Barnett describes his sound as "if a less talented Rufus Wainwright grew up in the South." Mixing a love of melody and harmony with finger-picked acoustic guitar, Brandon Barnett makes good use of the DIY ethos, making Beginner’s Mind a must have for fans of the new lo-fi. Singer-Songwriter from Jackson/Nashville, Tennessee.
