The Youngs

Los Angeles "heavy mellow" band, The Youngs, was founded in 2000 in Seattle by husband and wife Tim and Eryn Young then migrated South in 2006. They perform variously as a duo, large band or trio, currently joined by their longtime friend, John Schuller. Vocalist/drummer Eryn "Queen of the Downbeat" Young is equally informed by Diamanda Galas and Karen Carpenter yet sings her own very personal "space gospel." In Seattle she studied and performed with jazz great Julian Priester (Sun Ra, John Coltrane, Sunn O))), Herbie Hancock). During her time in Seattle she also performed with Sun City Girls, Bill Frisell and Wayne Horvitz while co-leading the Music/Dance ensemble Foot in Mouth and the avant rock band Bloodbunny. Since relocating to Los Angeles she has performed with artists from Van Dyke Parks to Tim Heidecker. Vocalist/guitarist Tim Young, was a ubiquitous presence in the Seattle rock and jazz scenes throughout the early 1990's and 2000's, when he played with members of Malfunkshun, Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. He toured extensively with David Sylvian and Wayne Horvitz. Since his re-location to Southern California, he has contributed to sessions with Beck, Fiona Apple and John Legend. as well as working regularly with soundtrack composer/drummer Brian Reitzell (Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, AIR, Redd Kross). Recently he has collaborated with Reggie Watts, including an appearance on Conan O-Brien. Bassist John Schuller has played with legendary doom band Earth, Master Musicians of Bukkake and ASVA (with members of Mr. Bungle, Sunn O))) and Burning Witch). The Youngs, their eponymous self-titled debut was released in 2004 on Web of Mimicry Records (Dengue Fever and Secret Chiefs 3), and followed it up with their 2006 self-released, Hand Up, Head Down. Recently, The Youngs have shared bills with funk legend George Clinton, punk icon Mike Watt, and avant-metal band Big Business in their on-going living room concert series.
