Brandon Sandefur

Brandon Sandefur a face to the new sound of traditional country music. His first single on UndergroundCountry, “Now You’re Tonkin”, first showcased back in the summer of 2000. It gained immediate attention as the upbeat shuffle made its way to medium rotation, and the impact of the new sound made its mark on radio and video programmers, nationwide. Later that year, Country Weekly Magazine nominated the video as one of, “most fun videos of the summer of ’00”. Although the video did not ultimately win, the notoriety was paramount to the success of the record, and helped contribute to the momentum of the indie label movement. His second single off the album was an upbeat song entitled “Right Between the Lies”, which showcased the “mainstream” side of the record, and landed in GAC’s top 15 most requested videos for 8 weeks. By all indications, things were headed in the right direction but, things begin to slide off track with the untimely death of a key member of his management team. Although he and his band continued to tour, the momentum slowed considerably, and the record stalled. He took the opportunity to take time and reflect on the experience by working on his farm in Middle Tennessee, and writing music. In his mind however; there was always the sense that he had some unfinished business to address. Never really knowing when that opportunity might present itself, the title song to his album “Walking Backwards” appeared out of the blue one day on the “resoundingly” popular website “Youtube”, as fans from across the globe demonstrated their newly choreographed line dance of themselves to the familiar echoes of his song. The birth of this new found “slide together, side to side” has produced 9 other versions of the dance, and a genuine interest in the artist, and album. Brandon’s sound is deeply rooted in the country music of his home state of Texas. Exposure at a very early age to the likes of legends such as Waylon, Willie, Merle Haggard, George Strait and Gary Stewart, contributed to his signature sound. His voice has depth, and is steeped in rich low tones that many have come to know as undeniably unique. It has been said that there is no mistaking Brandon for another artist once you’ve heard him. Although a traditionalist through and through, Brandon sheepishly admits he has a beloved affection for music from all genre’s, and includes in his favorites, artists such as; Travis, Keene, Death Cab for Cutie, Matchbox 20, Daughtry, Phoebe Snow, Sara McLachlan, Ryan Adams, and Pete Yorn, just to name a few. His diversity has allowed him to gracefully combine the legacy of his legendary influences with a style of his own; affectionately coined - country with attitude. Brandon graduated from Sam Houston State University, where he served as an All Southland Conference Linebacker on a full scholarship. He’s been performing on the live circuit from Texas to Nashville ever since. ‘Walking Backwards’ features ten songs, eight of which have been written or co-written by Sandefur. The material ranges from up-beat classic honky tonk with “Now You’re Tonkin”; to lush ballads like “Marguerita” and title cut “Walking Backwards”; to hard rocking contemporary country on “Driven” and “Right Between The Lies”.
