About Sweet 'Shine

Driven by the electric vocals and provocative songwriting of 2016 Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Competition Award-Winner, Rachel Laven, Sweet Shine and Honey is a Newgrass super group comprised of Laven (Guitar/Vocals/Songwriting), and multi-talented artists Steven Sellers (Banjo, Guitar, Mandolin), Sam Snavely (Bass), and Addison Freeman (Fiddle) who all hail from different corners of the Lone Star State. Sweet Shine's limited engagements and modern take on traditional Bluegrass and American forms offer audiences a range of sensitive story-telling and foot-stompin' fun. The four met in high school at San Antonio's magnet arts school, North East School of the Arts where the boys studied instrumental music and Laven studied Musical Theatre. Sweet 'Shine & Honey, however, didn't form until two years after they graduated, when Laven challenged Sellers to pick up a banjo and the two saught out friends to join their bluegrass project. The four quickly realized they weren't cut out for traditional bluegrass and used their multi-genre backrounds to create, a newgrass, folkgrass, funkgrass band. Now in their third year of making music together, Sweet 'Shine & Honey are about to record their very first EP, titled "Juniper" and plan to tour more extensively in the coming year. Rachel Laven, Steven Sellers, Addison Freeman and Sam Snavely together at last! Bluegrass/Folk/Texas Country Music!
