About Monsterland
Band formed in 1989 in the fertile Western CT music scene. Spawned from anti-rock industrialized noise band CLOSET FULL OF FEAR and then the tape collage pop group BUICK FROM HELL. "we're going on tour, and we're planning to destroy our lives and disapoint our parents." Thom Monahan 1993 wow - prophetic! we put out a lot of 7 Inches - a cassette album release, a few CDs, signed to a major label , toured US and Europe and after a few months of internal bickering about Greg Vegas' sudden obsession and use of eye make-up. the band broke up in early 1994. "One of the finest unheralded bands of the '90s, or in fact, ever." ..."A lot of young hopefuls during Monsterland's era (specifically the early '90s) were serving up a similar scalding cocktail of crunchy, feedback-ridden guitar squalls with a keen melodic awareness, but not many brought it together quite as powerfully as they did." WILLFULLY OBSCURE http://wilfullyobscure.blogspot.com Q (2/94, p.98) - 3 Stars - Good - "...Their irrepressible energy and permanently fresh-faced attack are in the best traditions of such raw, raucous fare....Monsterland power their way through 11 brief, bright tunes..." NME (11/27/93, p.33) - (7) - Very Good - "...this is the sound of electric guitar--and isn't it great?..." Melody Maker (12/11/93, p.29) - "...Monsterland have delivered the album that influenced grunge and inspired a million US teenagers to form bands that inevitably won't be quite as good. The fact that they've done it six years too late is a failing that you'll no doubt overlook..." PURE POP FOR FIDGETY PEOPLE
