Allies From Nowhere

Allies From Nowhere is a currently defunct raucous Indie rock quartet centered around the musical brain hive of Ben Thede and Ronan Baker. But you may have some questions: How did this come to pass? Where is Nowhere? Why should we care? Well... It would appear that "Nowhere" is less of a locale but rather more of a state of being. We are four souls constantly in flux, fluttering about with the shadow of a giant mallet hovering in the air above them, waiting for the perfect, most opportune, time to bang the nail home and pin us down. Well, that is where we are. We may be an Indie rock band from the sleepy town of Salem, Oregon but our music is constantly up in the air. Maybe one day some one will grab it and we'll be somewhere. Who knows. But for now, this is what we were and currently are: Who knew that the recording of a solo album for Ben Thede (of Summer Eyes, Foxtrot, Schumann Frequencies) at Humannequin Studios in 2012 would lead to a musical partnership with producer/engineer/basketcase, Ronan Baker (of Light Treason, Minute Hand Ballet, Jackson Blair)? But it did. After gushing over their mutual love of the drumming of The National's Bryan Devendorff, concept albums, Sufjan Stevens'/Jeff Tweedy's/Tom Verlaine's noise solos and the benefits of living a fantastical Fender lifestyle, a true collaborative hive mind was formed. Allies From Nowhere. There was no song length too long or too narrow. No key or feel change too strange, although they most likely would begin in Dmaj. (Who doesn't like the fatness of an E string dropped down to a low D on a guitar? But I digress...) No truth too harsh. The most important wish that the newly formed Allies strove to achieve was the birth of something original, enthralling, thought-provoking or engrossing. In other words, new. (On a separate note, did you know that "bloggable" is now included in the thesaurus as a synonym for interesting? Gag me with roughage please... Pardon the interruption, now back to the biography...) Throw in a bombastic drummer, Efrain Romero, and an amazingly eclectic bass/tuba/synth player, Danielle Meyer (of vonFrickle) and Allies finally had formed it's ranks! For now, AFN leans heavily on big sounds and big emotions. Our latest double disc endeavor, The Royal, is an album that centers around many of the psychological issues that plague our minds everyday: addiction, loss of self, loss of time, loss of love, loss of life. It was two years in the making. We really hope you enjoy what we've done. Lord knows we enjoy you. Especially if you've taken the time read to this far. Recent studies have shown that the modern millennial mind has an attention span only a single second longer than that of a goldfish. So thanks for...well...*Blurp*... Now the Allies are ready to journey from Nowhere for all to hear.
