About Cary Ann Hearst

Mississippi sown, barrel aged in Tennessee and finally cultivated in the Marsh of the Carolina Low country, 26 year old songwriter Cary Ann Hearst is pleased to present her first full length album..... CAH: Dust and Bones.

Recorded in the basement studio Rebellion Road, the production of CAH was a collaborative effort between Hearst, bass player Ash Hopkins and drummer Evan Bivins. The songs on Dust and Bones are a collection of warm, earnest vignettes about sordid family history, back country mythology and romances tattered and redeemed. While maintaining the organic and heart worn sound for which Hearst is loved in her home town of Charleston, SC, there is a sharp edge to Dust and Bones that reflects Hearsts love for punk, swamp blues, ethereal gospel and primitive rock and roll.

In the hillbilly stomp The Happy Woman's Blues, CA Hearst strips the country music idiom down to the quick, and delivers a rowdy, punked-out catharsis in the simplest terms. While songs like 1200 Miles, the heart-aching Straits of our love, and the anthemic Long Road reflect Hearst's unabashed love traditional country, the tracks Black Snake Blues and Dust and Bones venture into the heart of darkness, stirring voodoo and murder respectively into Hearsts concoction.

Recording Dust and Bones and was a nothing less than a family affair. Contributing their love to the album are some of Charleston's local favorites. Sadler Vaden (Leslie) on rawk guitars and harps, Josh Kaler (Slowrunner) on guitars and pedal steel, some Bill Carson cowriting and some BGVs. Finally, childhood friends all the way from Nashville TN, Cory Younts provides pianos and banjo and Dustin Welch lays down a spooky resonator guitar. The touring line up includes Ash Hopkins, Evan Bivins, Lee Barbour (lead guitar) and Nathan Koci (pianos). Plans for a summer tour are in the works, so do lock up your sons.
