It has been said that the live experience of Kata is attuned to being engulfed in black and pummeled into white. A darkness and a weight so thick and ominous, yet heightened by abstracts of beauty that you lose yourself in the journey. Classic era Neurosis meets any era Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Kata is not a band that makes songs, they are a band that makes sounds, with deep attention to those sounds, their dynamics, and an obsession with the subtleties between the chaos and melodies. Kata’s sound isn’t the only thing goliath about them, they’ve also had half of San Diego in the band—Gabe Serbian from the Locust and Retox was playing with them, members of ILYA, Goodbye Blue Monday, Hostile Combover, Tourettes Lautrec and The Long and Short have all made collective appearances or act as full time members, as well as ex-Physics mastermind Jason Soares doing live visuals. With two live drummers and a full string section, Kata spares no expense on live performance. Kata will likely be one of the most beautifully dark live experiences you’ll ever have and since catching a show isn't something you can do everyday, the next best thing is to catch some of their recordings. With their own studio and years of experience behind the wheel, Kata has been able to capture that live experience and even build upon it with their recordings.
