The Mountain Goats

The Mountain Goats never disappoint when seeing them live. John has so much energy and has so much fun on stage, the whole crowd can feel it. The Social was a fun, if not a bit too small, venture full of vibrant people and staff. The bar service was phenomenal and quick! It is definitely one of those places that you can't go wrong doing an event there, as everyone was so friendly and just wanted to have a good time together!

The Mountain Goats were as delightful and prolific as ever. Their set was fanatastic, perfect way to kick off the Jenny from Thebes album! Town Ballroom was spacious, clean, and welcoming too.

Absolutely phenomenal, as always! Nothing like getting to say thank you to an artist who's music changed your life and he actually hears you over the crowd. Thank you John Darnielle for all your work, craft and music has given me. Desolate hope in a bleak world but hope nonetheless!

Outstanding! John & the gang were in great form, giving us a phenomenal set full of jocularity. A joyously merry time was had by all - who could ask for anything more?!

This was a religious experience. The best opening act possible, as well, with Adeem the Artist. I hope the crowd's love was clear enough to make them come back to Baton Rouge very soon! We love them here. John's crowd interaction is a 100/10, and I felt like we all came away feeling like important members of a sort of community. Never had that feeling from a concert. Even now, almost 24 hours later, I still feel like I'm dreaming! After missing the chance to see them in Houston in 2020 (I just let the cost of the tickets go to the band), I also lost my apartment and workplace to Hurricane Laura that same year, so I'm clear on the other side of the state from Texas now. I am really hoping they make Baton Rouge a little, bitty mainstay for their tour routes. :) Been a fan since I was about four or five years old, so it's been a dream for me to be able to see them my whole life. Very pleased with the amazing experience.

Oh my goodness this concert was so much fun. Awesome energy, great music and fun crowd. I’ve been to a ton of concerts and this was the best.

Great show amazing venue just felt the energy was lower than i would have liked maybe its cuz im not used to this genre performances but all in all great

The band was amazing. The venue is ok. I’m getting older and no longer enjoy being packed on the front of the stage which I’m totally cool with. So I stay back and even considered table service. The table service was quoted at $200min (+20% gratuity) which could have also been ok but half the table have horrible views blocked by anyone sitting at the other tables. It used to be standing room and that was great. Now it just took away decent standing room and replaced it with obstructed table views at insane prices (not because of the price but because of the view you’re paying for).

Farthest I’ve traveled to see tMG - 1800 miles, Bloomington to Vegas. It sounds crazy. But man I’m glad I was at this show. The venue was great, the staff was great, the crowd was great. The band was on fire. My 13-yr-old’s second tMG show. My 7-yr-old’s first!

Solo show was amazing! The venue needs a lot of work though. Servers were awful!!! It’s new so I think they’ll get better. They kept trying to take out food and drinks before we were done (happened four times- that’s a lot in my world...) and didn’t know what anything was- I asked if they had a full bar and she said no, then noticed other people had cocktails. Ordered a beer and they brought the wrong one because they didn’t know what they had, they kept asking us to repeat ourselves when we were just trying to watch the show. All this should get better but I’m gonna wait a few months before trying City Winery again.

Seeing tMG for the first time was beyond anything I've ever experienced. It was absolutely incredibly and moving. The venue was also super cool and had great sound. Lydia Loveless was super awesome!

The best part of the show was when John introduced Cadaver Sniffing Dog by saying "This song is an really am extended metaphor for a decaying relationship." To which someone in the audience said "Aren't they all?" Great show. Wish I saw them the second night.

The Mountain Goats put on a awesome show like always . I think I can speak for everyone in saying save your conversations for between sets or after the show . Lots of people had their night ruined by loud mouth drunks that could not shut up . This is a coffee house vide save your loud drunkenness for Flogging Molly shows .

The concert was amazing! They had so much energy and made me cry many times. The band delivered magic! It was the best concert I’ve ever been to!

It was the most amazing, heart stopping, tearjerking concert i’ve been to. Never felt so attached to a band in such an emotional way. I’m so glad i went.

The opening act was mediocre. Having listened to some of his music prior, it felt like he was having a rough night and was trying to make the best of it. That said, some of his banter between songs seemed rather inapropriate for an all-ages audience (a particular crack about choking your partner during sex comes to mind). Overall, the audience was very low energy and kinda meh, not giving much back to either act to work with. The Mountain Goats had a wonderful set, tight and good energy. Their passion amd enjoyment of performing always is readily aparent. That said, the crowd was not giving much back to them. Possibly due to high tensions in town from intense pro and anti Trump rallies prior, but it was tangibly a low enthusiasm crowd. I saw the Mountain Goats at Wonder Ballroom last year, and the crowd that evening was magic, and made for a memorable performance. The MG brought an amazing performance, but the crowd soured the evening.

Great as usual. As well as being great musicians and a really tight band with great arrangements, John and the band have a great rapport with the audience. Chatting about the songs and other stuff, it's really personal and you feel like your part of it. I had a great time.

i think JD is a genius. no qualifiers, I genuinely believe he is brilliant in countless ways. the show didn't hit me in the way I wish it had. the opener, Ides of Gemini, seemed bored on stage and their music lacked passion or energy. fair concert overall. I'll stick to obsessively listening to TMG at home on my headphones.

What a beautiful and intimate performance, John loves his audience just as much as we love him. Stayed after to sign merch and anything anyone had on them.
