About Tarah
To label Tarah’s music on just a specific genre…well that just wouldn’t be fair. Could it be New Age? Maybe. How about Instrumental Pop, Jazz or Progressive Rock? It has some of it, but then again, there are all of those Latin roots, electronic sounds, and eclectic atmospheres. You know what? Let’s simply not try to label it. Tarah’s music is a collection of sounds influenced by cultural diversity and conveyed through the interpretation of 8 musicians with a keen eye (or ear) of what people wish to hear. The complexity in its mixture is what makes it as appealing as unique. So, at the end, if it really has to be labeled, it’s music from the world for the world. Tarah’s story began almost 15 years ago, in the island of Puerto Rico (18.2500° N, 66.5000° W), at the verge of the millennium, when many were embarking on a journey of self-discovery and music played a key role in their soul searching. New Age music conquered the airwaves around the globe. Yanni, Enya, David Arkenstone, Mannheim Steamroller and Kitaro where some of the artists leading the charts, while in the island, something really special was about to happen. Mastermind and keyboardist Juan Carlos Ferrer joined paths with a group of daring musicians in an attempt to fulfill their own inner journey, bringing to life a project so unique, it automatically captured the attention from the media and the public as well. Its name was Tarah. Tarah began playing a series of full house concerts for the Puerto Rico Institute of Culture. In 2001, it was selected as the main act for the prestigious Puerto Rico Museum of Art inaugural events, and later embarked on a college tour around the island. The “big break” came in 2003, when they received a formal invitation by Mannheim Steamroller’s founder, Mr. Chip Davis (Fresh Aire series) to play as opening act for their concert in Puerto Rico. In 2004, Tarah released their debut album “The Journey”, which was a promise of success, even in a country where this type of music wasn’t first choice among mainstream media. With many more concerts on the horizon and a strong growing fan base, all of a sudden and out of the blue, everything stopped. An unexpected illness came into one of the founding member’s family. As a gesture of solidarity, Tarah became quiet for a while. Days became weeks, months, even years, and the course of life took everyone in separate ways. Finally, in 2012, Tarah was back and ready to rock the music scene with a renewed approach in every single aspect: new members, fresh music, exhilarating arrangements and of course, a new album. There’s a lot that eight years can do to a person; especially to musicians. Skills get polished, new stories are born inspired by new experiences and the soul is nurtured with wisdom. Every single one of these traits is portrayed in their long-awaited new album “Voyage”, released on August 2014 as a celebration to Tarah’s comeback after 10 years of absence. “Voyage” is Tarah at its best, with its unique blend of sounds from all over the globe, spiced up with its strong latin roots. Contained within each musical piece, a truly universal message of passion, the celebration of life, the achievement of happiness, and the overwhelming power of the human spirit. Tarah is an Instrumental Pop & World Music fusion band. Its unique blend of cultures and melodies will take you on a musical journey like no other.
