Punky Donch

As inexplicable as the band name, is their style: a mix of Roots/Reggae with some Caribbean flavour, Hip Hop and a pinch of Rock. What most band members have in common is their Caribbean heritage, but what makes them unique is the combination of talented individuals with different upbringings and musical backgrounds. The blend of their diversity in style and similarity in culture creates the incomparable Punky Donch sound. Since the formation of the band in 2008, Punky Donch has released two albums. Their debut album was titled ‘Gangsta Reggae’ and was released in 2009. It features songs in both, Papiamentu and English. The singles ‘Sensimilla’ and ‘Mi Kier Bo Awe’ worked their way through the networks of fans and supporters and hit the charts in the Antilles in 2009. That same year, Punky Donch won the European Reggae Contest as ‘Best Reggae/Roots Band Benelux’ and played at Europe’s biggest Reggae festival, the Rototom Sunsplash. After their performance at the Amsterdam Reggae festival, some critics described Punky Donch as ‘one of the revelations’ of the festival and the ‘surprise of the night’. Their second album was released in December 2012 and is titled "On my Way". This album also had several song that reached the top charts in the Caribbean and the Netherlands. Songs like "Maybe", "Rasta Lightning", "Balang Beng" and "Mamasita" held the #1 position at various radio stations. Punky Donch has since released three official videoclips, for "Rasta Lightning", "Balang Beng" and their latest release has been the videoclip for "On My Way". Throughout the years Punky Donch has toured within Belgium, Netherlands and the Antilles. Currently the band members are working on their highly anticipated new album.
