Dara Ackerman Refreshingly surprising, with an ever changing sound all her own, Dara Ackerman is an eclectic, indie singer-songwriter with a voice that opens the heart and touches the sky. Her songs are filled with unexpected turns, groove, and insight. Eight years in the making, Dara’s first album, Skyland, is a labor of love across two continents, five cities, seven co-producers, nineteen musicians, and a ton of emails. Skyland tells of her move from the US to seven years in the Indian Himalayas. Moving from longing and fear to clarity and wisdom, her songs capture moments that made deep impressions on her that resonate powerfully now. Dara works with Bay Area bands Felsen, Scarth Locke and the Sophisticates, MacClain & Cole and Los Angeles based bands The Happy Mediums, and Superbroke Superheroes Brass Tin & Strings Marching Ensemble. Dara collaborates with numerous musicians and her beloved band members Scarth Locke, Andrew Griffin, Peter Canton and Joanne de Mars. Mark (at Earthville), her chief collaborator and producer, is based in Colorado and Northern India. She and her band, “Dara Ackerman”, have sold out shows at The Lost Church (SF), The Monkey House (Berkeley), the Magic JuJu Boathouse (San Rafael), house concerts up and down the west coast, and was recently awarded Vocalist of the Year at the 2015 Annual Twirlie Awards in Sacramento (twirlradio.com).
