About Owl Farm

Owl Farm are an intense yet tuneful rock and roll band with a playful sense of humour and a love for sonic psychedelia. They have been described as “creepy punk” and/or “lounge metal”. Started as a recording project in the fall of 2007 (debut self titled e.p. recorded by Aaron Holmberg between home & The Tragically Hip's Bathouse Studio), Owl Farm became a live act in the summer of 2008. They began wowing audiences with over the top performances, performing regularly in Kingston, Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto, & holding their own while sharing the stage with the likes of Zoobombs, Orange Alabaster Mushroom, P.S. I Love You, B.A. Johnston, SNFU, Peelander Z, Public Animal, & Fucked Up. Their first full length "Don't Stop" was recorded in 2009 by Chris "Skid" Scahill (of Malhavoc & The Mahones) & charted across Canadian campus radio. These first two releases were made available online at Zunior. When their 3rd album "A Cautionary Tale" was completed (once again by Skid) the band made the unusual decision of not officially releasing it. CDR copies were given away for free at shows & tracks appeared in different orders depending which band member had burned the CD. Recordings for a live album were made, then shelved, but will likely resurface, since Owl Farm is best experienced that way. In 2015, the band was asked to contribute their song "Extinction" (from "Don't Stop") to the soundtrack for Brand: A Second Coming, the Russell Brand documentary by 2 time Sundance Award Winner Ondi Timoner (Dig!, We Live In Public). Though Owl Farm rarely play out of town in recent years, they continue to perform live in Kingston as often possible, adhering to their belief that "playing music beats thinking about playing music." “Like The Ramones having fun in a garage.” - Alan Cross - ExploreMusic "The songs are easy to like, and they're memorable . . . I get a 'playing what we want to play' vibe from Owl Farm, but if that's the case what they want to play is interesting and good." - Adam Morrison - 102.1 the edge Toronto "Owl Farm is extremely creative and at least moderately disturbed; you must, at the least, admire their theoretical medication regimen if nothing else. Walking the line between moderately bizarre and downright disturbing seems to be their mien, and the music is appropriately rough to accommodate the B-Grade horror movie feel that surrounds the band. I really liked Don't Stop, and if you like your music with a dark and twisted side, then Owl Farm is definitely for you." - Wildly's World - N.Y. “They bear a diversity which can fit them into three or four genres depending on the track. Owl Farm is high energy good rockin’ music, and their a-bit-all-over-the-place nature protects us from getting bored. Whether they are singing about ‘the horn lord’s return and goblins’ or laying down a catchy pop tune, they keep it interesting and deliver a fun time.” - Dirty Hippie Radio - L.A. "Playing music beats thinking about playing music."
