In their converging paths, Megan Palmer and Bob Lewis have a kinship born of Rust Belt transplants in the MusicCity. Those honey and hickory harmonies are not so much world-weary as they are self-aware, hard-won
poetry of its own design. Megan Palmer has been routinely playing and performing with bands since middle school. By putting a pickup in her Great-grandfather’s violin, she jumped headlong into the Columbus music scene (performing withbands like The Spikedrivers) on her way to touring North America with the Canadian band Luther Wrightand the Wrongs at the onset of the Americana movement. Years of honing her songwriting eventually
led her to Nashville, and invariably connected with writing partner Bob Lewis. Growing up in Northeastern PA’s punk and hardcore scene, Bob’s evolution as a musician and performer includes crisscrossing America in various bands, including cult pop-punk act Bedford. Bob has channeled
those experiences into his songwriting--a marriage of Music Row and hardluck power pop--to join East Nashville’s singer-songwriter scene.
Weaving in and out of each other’s musical orbits, Megan and Bob began playing in each other’s backing bands, often working on songs together. The pair made a pact to support one another, and that pacteventually evolved into a project, touring through the northeast last year--as well as playing in Portland and Alaska. As the pair solidified their collaboration, a misheard comment describing a song as “slowfours” quickly became a band moniker; enter Slowforce.
