About Sculpture Music

Sculpture Music is the project of multi instrumentalist Matt Calder. Incorporating Hang Drum, Halo Handpans, thick acoustic guitar harmonics, synths vocals and beats into a Cinematic / World / Electronica, soundscape - the Sculpture Music pallet is rich with experimental textures and atmospheres. The rich sonics and unique characters of the Hang and Handpans are a centre point of Matt's work, providing emotive, organic soundscapes and rich harmonies - both vocal and instrumental. The first Sculpture Music EP - Minor Songs In Major Keys' was released in January 2013 with John Shaw on electric and double bass, and was quickly picked up by Tom Robinson on BBC Radio 6 and BBC Introducing's James Santer, who both featured much of the EP on their shows throughout the year. The Duo also supported Bjork percussionist Manu Delago while on his Homemade tour at this time. This was followed by two Glastonbury Festival dates, and live sessions with BBC Introducing and BBC Radio Devon. The follow-up EP 'Beneath The Waves was released in 2015, and was again picked up for airplay by BBC Radio 6 and BBC Introducing. The duo were awarded The Glastonbury Festival Emerging Talent Award in 2015, which resulted in another date at the festival, as well as the WOMAD Festival and a solo support slot for Public Service Broadcasting in Exeter. 2016 brought another Glastonbury date, as well as a slot at the Sidmouth Fringe Festival, with Lukas Drinkwater and Tom Rosenbloom guesting on Double Bass and Drums. Matt also spent the summer guesting with percussive guitarist Chris Woods, with the Chris Woods Groove Orchestra, alongside Harkiret Singh Bahra on Tabla and Lukas Drinkwater on double bass - playing at The Larmer Tree Festival, The London Acoustic Show, The Acoustic Festival Of Britain, and the Malmesbury Acoustic Sessions. A new solo Sculpture Music EP, titled The Compass is due for release late October 2017. "This is a great noise" - Tom Robinson, Radio 6 "harmonic rich, intricate, compelling music" - James Santer, BBC Introducing in Devon.
