About sugar sauce

singer-songwriter michael glines began performing his solo material in the monterey music scene upon returning from korea on a real dragon in 2011. gradually, he began to incorporate guest musicians to the live set. sugar sauce began when drummer ben rosett (strawberry girls) and bassist bobby guinvarch (slack) pushed the sound beyond the boundaries of a solo project into a funky soundscape of mud and desire. michael put away his acoustic guitar and returned to his first love, his electric guitar and arsenal of transcendental effects pedals. though bobby held down the bass consistently, ben left the band in 2012 to focus on strawberry girls, and drummer david hardie stepped up to the plate. he filled the position adequately, but gradually succumbed to a growing obsession with charcuterie and had to end his participation in sugar sauce. for their summer tour of 2013, the band recruited brett nickel on drums. having experience performing in previous bands together (st. geme, invoke), brett and michael were well acquainted with each other's styles; their partnership was a natural fit. after the tour, the three were ready to record an album, titled DIRTY WORK, which is set to release this spring. working hard in the csumb studio with audio engineer adam pardee, the band became acquainted with singer-songwriter lillie lemon and her producer/keyboardist/lovetoy eric rowe (aka erica wobbles), whose album adam was also engineering. after turbulent negotiations, michael forced his guitar tracks onto lillie's album and blackmailed her and eric to play on DIRTY WORK. they were forcefully initiated into sugar sauce on december 31st, 2013, by flogging, which they enjoyed immensely. shortly after tracking bass on the album, bobby decided it was time for him to focus his efforts on slack, so sugar sauce summoned eddie kawashima (candy flip, VIS, microclouds) to the role of official bassist. eddie is an old friend and proven veteran on the bass, and the vibe couldn't be tighter or brighter amongst this crew. the five members are totally stoked to deliver tight grooves to your local venue this summer. DIRTY WORK will drop this spring, and so will your panties. XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO soul-flavored indie rock from the central coast of california. tasty, eclectic and totally your style.
