About Charlie Lane
Hailing out of Australia's capital Naarm/ Melbourne, Charlie Lane is releasing her debut album ‘I’m Okay Now, But I Wasn’t’ October 18 2024, available on all streaming services and Vinyl via diggers factory copy.
“Lane’s delivery is distinctive with its clarity and raw emotion...The effect is that of a female-fronted The National or James with that sense of heightened melancholia and pop melody, with a brush of Lily Allen or Sharon Van Etten.” are words often used to describe Charlie Lane. Charming and honest, the indie pop songwriter explores themes of darkness, grief, hope and acknowledgement in her songwriting.
‘I’m Okay Now, But I Wasn’t’ is Charlie Lane’s debut album, following the release of her EP ‘Mood Swings & Antidepressants’ in 2017 and four singles, Crazy Happy, The Darkest Time, Faker, and Sail over 2018 and 2019, with her music gaining over 300,000 streams online and featured on Triple J Home & Hosed, ABC, SYN and JOY fm.
Working with producer and engineer Rohan Sforcina (formerly of ARIA Award winning band Oh Mercy) at HeadGap Studios, this latest release encompasses the sounds Charlie has developed over the last 10 years, since graduating from JMC Academy with a bachelor in contemporary music and performance, playing over 100+ shows across Melbourne and collaborating with a variety of session musicians including Adam Heath (Guitarist for numerous bands such as Maple Glider and C.Watts), Louis Spencely and Jethro Kalt ( Drummer and bassist for East Bound Buzz), Ellie Lamb (Trumpet/ Trombone player for the International Jazz Festival/ and backing for Vance Joy) and producers, Luke Yeoward (owner of Half Way Records, past singer for King Cannons). Charlie’s upcoming album is mastered by Lachlan Carrick who is known for many mastering credits including Grammy- nominated soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” and working FOH for Gotye.
Artistically diverse, Charlie is involved in all creative elements of her brand, working in new media and illustration, designing cover art for her last two EP’s. Charlie Lane is music and vision.
As a woman with an invisible disability, Charlie Lane is leading a change in the music industry, wanting to see a more inclusive movement within the industry.
