About blackstoneradio

Blackstoneradio is a groove rock band from Cape Town. Established in a garage in Bellville in 2008, the band of four is JC Malengret (vox), Francois Louw (guitar), Trevor Edwards (bass) and Dylan Haskin (drums). In an industry often characterized by overproduction, BSR’s music echoes simpler times when the amplified guitar was purer and the vocal melodies hauntingly charismatic. ------------------------------------------------ Blackstoneradio’s roots date back to early 2008 when Francois returned from abroad and started assembling his first musical project as a guitarist (being a drummer previously). An online ad for vocalist was placed - and so stepped in JC Malengret. JC’s natural ability to thread out catchy vocal-melodies amidst heavier’ rock arrangements got him the spot as BSR’s front man – and solidified the band’s distinctive hard rock yet ‘radio-friendly’ sound. Drummers and bassists came and went; but BSR’s clear cut approach to song-writing endured. Over the course of 2009 and 2010 BSR played to eager fans around Cape Town’s music scene, recorded a 3-song EP and quickly earned a reputation for being a hard-working hard rock band. In 2011, Albert Burger stepped in as the new bass player and Dylan Haskins (former guitarist) took reigns of the drum kit. Both new members brought an even cleaner approach to the composition of the music and the chemistry between the ‘band of four’ became quickly evident in the pace at which their songwriting flowed. In 2011, they went into the studio to record a 3-song EP and ended up with an 11-track full debut album. In July 2012, Trevor Edwards replaced Burger and is set to launch the debut album as the new backbone of the band on bass. Story behind the name ‘Blackstoneradio’: In 1999, Francois (when he was in grade 14) bought his first guitar from a neighbour for R42 and a Blackstone cigar. BSR’s radio-friendly vocal melodies completed the name. PROUDLY ENDORSED BY: Ibanez www.ibanez.com Marshall Music Cape Town www.marshallmusic.co.za New Music Video: http://bit.ly/1aXymXh
