About Acid Pauli
Acid Pauli, the alias of German musician Martin Gretschmann, has spent more than two decades pushing electronic music’s boundaries with a playful, psychedelic edge. A 1970s Bavarian native, he cut his teeth on bass in indie-punk bands before affordable samplers drew him into production. Under the name Console he unveiled the debut album “Pan or ama” (1996) and joined indie icons The Notwist, touring globally from 1997-2014. The Acid Pauli persona, born in 2000, has taken him to legendary clubs and festivals on five continents, while his 2012 LP “Mst” on Clown & Sunset won praise alongside comparisons to Ricardo Villalobos; Björk even sampled a Console track. Celebrated for kaleidoscopic DJ sets that layer up to four tracks with live edits, he constantly seeks fresh dialogue: improvising with Rajasthani folk players at Jodhpur’s Sacred Music Festival, scoring Sasha Waltz’s dance piece “Dialoge 2020 – Radialsystem”, and crafting tribute sets to Leonard Cohen (Mutek Montréal 2018) and Ryuichi Sakamoto (Frue Festival Japan 2023 with Viken Arman). Beyond the booth he composes film and radio scores, builds his label “All is Acid”, and explores non-electronic realms like jazz drummer Raphael Pannier’s album “Letter to a Friend” or his ambient performance for Basel’s Fondation Beyeler. Forever curious, Acid Pauli continues to conjure surprising spaces for connection through rich sonic collage.
