About Dimitris Tsakas
Dimitris Tsakas – Saxophonist, Composer, Eductor Curator
A Berklee College of Music scholarship recipient, I studied under jazz masters such as Andy McGee, Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone, and Steve Wilson. Over the past two decades, I have contributed to over 200 albums and collaborated with esteemed artists, including Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Haris Alexiou, Demis Roussos, Maria Farantouri, and Academy Award-winning composer Vangelis Papathanassiou.
As a bandleader and soloist, I have performed at major jazz festivals and events, including:
* The Athens & Epidaurus Festival
* ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra (Charlie Parker with Strings)
* Stavros Niarchos Foundation (Dark Side of the Moon symphonic arrangement)
My discography includes:
* Growing Up (recorded in New York)(Faos music 2010)
* A Man Dreams (Minos EMI-Universal) 2015
* Back of Beyond (premiered at the 2021 Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival)
* Conversation Helps (Hellenic Jazz Society, 2024)
Beyond performing, I am committed to jazz education, leading workshops and serving as the cultural director of the Jazz at the Museum series at the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation. Since 2022, I have curated Live at the Plateia at the Athens Epidaurus Festival.
