About Heather Rankin

Heather Rankin is a singer, songwriter and actor, best known as the youngest member of the multi-platinum selling and multi-award winning musical group, The Rankin Family. Her 2016 debut solo album A Fine Line was nominated for a Juno Award for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year and two East Coast Music Awards, for Folk Recording of the Year and Fans’ Choice Video of the Year for “We Walk As One.” Heather has performed in venues and Festivals across Nova Scotia, including headlining the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, the Kempt Shore Festival and Harmony Bazaar, hosting Songwriting Circles at ECMA Week and the Deep Roots Festival, performing at the Grand Opening of the Celtic Colours Festival, co-hosting the ECMAs with Ashley MacIsaac, and performing at a barbecue for Prime Minister Trudeau in New Glasgow. She has released three music videos, “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” and “We Walk As One,” directed by Scott Simpson, and “Titanically,” directed by Thom Fitzgerald. She has taken her music to the Folk Alliance Showcase in Kansas City, Hugh’s Room Live in Toronto, and has recently toured multiple venues in Alberta, Ontario, and throughout the Maritimes. Her seasonal album, Imagine, was released in December and Heather joined Dave Gunning and Ray Legere as guests in Tomato Tomato’s Maritime Christmas Tour. Heather has recorded and performed with a variety of artists, including The Chieftains, Johnny Reid and Carly Simon. Heather is also an accomplished actor. She holds a BFA in Theatre from Acadia University, and recent stage credits include Birdy in Daniel MacIvor’s Small Things (Neptune Theatre/Mulgrave Road), Donna in Hockey Mom, Hockey Dad (Neptune Theatre), Bitsy in MacIvor’s Bingo (Mulgrave Road/Neptune Theatre), for which she was nominated for a Merritt Award, as well as productions at Factory Theatre in Toronto, Chester Playhouse and the Halifax Fringe. Her work in film and television includes The Hanging Garden, Marion Bridge, Mr. D, Sex & Violence, Lexx and Faith, Fraud and Minimum Wage, among others. Her singing is featured in the critically-acclaimed film Margaret’s Museum. In 2005, Heather and her sisters purchased the seasonally operated Red Shoe Pub in their hometown of Mabou, Cape Breton. The century old converted general store offers a full menu and live local music daily from June through to mid October each year.
