Penn Sargam

Penn Sargam is one of America's first student-groups dedicated to promoting South Asian fusion music. Established in 2004 by students at the University of Pennsylvania, Sargam brings together music ranging from Hindustani, Carnatic and Western Classical to Bollywood, Pop and Rock. Our group is as diverse as our music, featuring musicians from all over the world.

Sargam has performed with Shreya Ghoshal live! We have also performed twice at Johns Hopkins' Nritya Mala, and our pieces have also been featured on radio. With Carnatic, Hindustani, and Western vocals, as well as instruments ranging from sitar and tabla, to guitar and drums, Penn Sargam presents a memorable journey through the musics of South Asia.

We look forward to exploring the depths of musical tradition, both from the classical art forms of the Indian subcontient to the modern performance of Indian music on global stages. To that end, Sargam pursues open jam events, as well as live performances to explore the connection between these diverse art forms. Furthermore, we strive to create a warm community of diverse muscians who are creative and motivated to collaborate and develop musical performances to fruition.
