About Matt Tedder
Hailing from Fort Worth, Texas, singer-songwriter Matt Tedder is a fresh new face in the music scene. After discovering an electric guitar under his parent’s bed while playing hide and seek at age seven, he became obsessed. Tedder went on to master the guitar at age 13 and branched out by teaching himself how to play the slide guitar, looking to follow in the footsteps of rock and blues icons. Inspired by artists such as The Rolling Stones, Freddie King, Muddy Waters, and B.B. King, Tedder started playing gigs at age nine. After learning his first few chords at home, he came across musician Dennis Dullea one day in a guitar store playing blues and insisted that his parents sign him up for lessons. This sparked something in him as a teen.
At age 17 he set off for Nashville, guitar in hand, determined to make it in a city known for being home to some of music’s finest. Gigging around town and spending his free time soaking up the onstage presence of musicians like Jack Pearson (Allman Brothers Band), Tom Britt (Patty Loveless/Vince Gill) and Jonell Mosser (Etta James/New Maroons), Tedder started recording YouTube videos in his living room. Soon after, he was discovered by producers at NBC’s hit show “The Voice” after they watched a video of an original tune he wrote called “Down The Road.” During his Blind Audition, the Fort Worth native sang Muddy Waters’ “Hoochie Coochie Man” and received a standing ovation from producer/pop icon Pharrell Williams before securing his spot on Team Adam. His cover of the legendary track reached #1 on iTunes’ Blues charts before he lost to the eventual runner up Laith Al-Saadi in the Battle Rounds. While humble and shy offstage, Tedder was electrifying onstage, impressing judges and fans alike with his impressive guitar riffs and strong vocals. After his stint on “The Voice,” the young singer-songwriter and guitar aficionado was excited to spend time with his family back in Texas and return to the budding music scene of Fort Worth. He recently gave fans their first taste of original music in the form of his debut EP “California Mercy Me,” which was released on Oct. 7 of this year.
On “California, Mercy Me” the young songwriter embraced his Texas roots and blended together elements of rock, folk and blues with ease. To bring the EP to life, Tedder and engineer/co-producer Beau Bedford brought an impressive list of local artists into the studio, including Matt Mabe (Quaker City Night Hawks), Scott Lee (Larry g(EE)/The Texas Gentlemen/The Misteries/Paul Cauthen/Jonathan Tyler), Paul Harrington (Pitbull/Kesha’s hit “Timber”), Taylor Lumby (Atlantis Aquarius/Larry g(EE)), and Hannah Cook (Larry g(EE)/K. Phillips/Jonas Martin). His debut EP received rave reviews by local media, earning him a Dallas Observer Music Award nomination for “Best Blues Act.” The youngest addition to booking agency 13th Floor Music’s roster, Tedder has big plans to hit the road this fall, rock-n-rollin’ all the way.
