Kada

Kada (born January 10, 1990 as Kathryn Maree Southwell) is a Singer Songwriter from the East Coast of New South Wales, Australia. Her sound has been described as a mixture of R&B soul & folk mixed with electronic sounds. Inspired by the greats such as Alicia Keys, Jewel, Lauryn Hill, Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston, Kada hopes to follow in the footsteps of her music heros & pave a new path of her own that others may also one day follow. In 2009 she made the move to California with her long term boyfriend Barney (C5/6 Quadriplegic after horrific car accident in 1999) who was learning to walk again at a spinal rehabilitation program called Project Walk. It didn’t take long though until she was extremely inspired by his progress & determination that it infected her also with the drive to reach for her dreams of being a performer. After 2 years of open mic nights & little gigs here & there she finally found some recognition & signed with an LA independent label MNO Records. Kada is currently recording her debut album ‘The Unknown’ & has taken a step out of her confort zone from behind her piano & ballads with a totally fresh new sound.
