About Shawn Nelson Music

Shawn Nelson Music
Shawn Nelson is an American singer-songwriter known for his contributions to the Country and Americana music scenes. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Nelson moved to Austin to pursue his musical career, spending over 15 years performing, writing, and recording in the vibrant music hub.
Nelson’s musical journey began during his college years at the University of Texas, where he performed at local venues like The Back Forty in downtown Austin. After graduation, he moved to Nashville, working as a song plugger for songwriter Liz Rose’s publishing company. However, the call of Texas brought him back to Austin, where he formed bands such as Frontage Road and Crazy Chester before embarking on a solo career.
Over the years, Nelson has released multiple albums, including “Shawn Nelson & The Ramblers,” “Live from Antone’s,” “Ain’t No Easy Way,” “San Juan Street,” “The Devils River,” “You Are Me,” and “2020.” The Austin Chronicle named his 2011's San Juan Street "one of the best country albums of the year."
Shortly before moving to Denver in 2017, Nelson collaborated with fellow Austin songwriter, Graham Wilkinson, to release the album, “2fer1”, recorded in the historic Sun Studio in Memphis.
His music blends traditional country elements with contemporary influences, showcasing his deep voice and poignant songwriting. Tracks like “The Devils River,” “Cruel Ol’ World,” and “Oh Tonight” highlight his storytelling prowess and ability to connect with listeners on a personal level.
Throughout his career, Nelson has shared stages with notable acts, performing at venues ranging from Gruene Hall with Asleep at the Wheel to Stubb’s with Drive-By Truckers. His dedication to his craft and genuine passion for music have solidified his reputation as a respected artist within the Country and Americana genres.
