About The Restoration
The Restoration formed in 2007 in Lexington, SC.
They released Constance in 2010, described by Paste Magazine as a “historical-fiction concept album exploring the changing dynamics of race, religion, class and creativity in a fictionalized Reconstruction-era South.” The album combines shape note singing and old-time ballads with chamber pop, rock drums and synth. Constance was added to the literature and history curriculum at Spartanburg Methodist College.
Honor the Father was released in 2012. It riffs on ragtime, early rock ’n’ roll, and torch songs to depict the perils of fundamentalism and patriarchy through the marriage of Diana and Roman Bright in 1950s Lexington, SC.
Between 2013 and 14 the band released New South Blues, an EP of standalone songs, and participated in the production of an Honor the Father short film. The film has received 80,000 views and was awarded "Best Local Grit" at Indie Grits Film Festival. The band closed out 2014 with shows at Asheville NC’s Bele Chere festival and the SC State Fair grandstand opening for Shovels & Rope.
For the next few years, members of The Restoration worked on a variety of outside projects, including performances on albums by Alexa Woodward and Those Lavender Whales. The band participated in a workshop staged musical version of Constance at Columbia SC's Trustus Theatre, developed into a full production in 2018.
In 2016 the band began rehearsing new material for West, a full-length album set to be released in 2018.
