About Lisa De Angelis
Lisa De Angelis makes cowboy music for city slickers.
Arms tattooed, cowboy boots polished, flared jeans snug, this five-foot firecracker’s alt-country sound is what might’ve happened if June Carter Cash came up in Sydney’s Inner West and joined The Black Keys: melodic old-time country spattered with bluesy, swampy rock & roll. For fans of Sierra Ferrell, Margo Price and Nikki Lane, Lisa De Angelis is one to watch.
De Angelis’ live show is as close as you'll get to a tent revival this side of Tennessee, heavy on masterful lyricism, rowdy sing-alongs, and fast-paced no-holds anecdotes laced with De Angelis' frenetic finger-picked guitar style. This tiny hurricane cut her teeth playing the graveyard shift at inner-city dive bars and has both the angelic voice and the bite to prove it.
De Angelis screeched onto the Australian country music scene in 2019 when she graduated from the Country Music Association of Australia’s prestigious Academy of Country Music, showcasing a moreish sound both revivalist and fresh. Since then she has toured with some of Australia’s best, including Steve Kilbey (The Church), Phil Jamieson (Grinspoon), Nathan Cavaleri, Amber Lawrence, James Blundell, The Audreys, Hayley Jensen, Catherine Britt and Melody Moko. De Angelis made her US debut in 2024 when she played Nashville’s CMA Fest, the largest country music festival in the world, and earlier that same year made her Tamworth Country Music Festival main stage debut. She has played TCMF multiple times since 2019, and has also performed at the Gympie Music Muster.
De Angelis’ songs have garnered airplay on CMT, ABC Country and KIX Country Radio, and her song ‘My Sister’s Blue Suitcase’ was named a semi-finalist in the 2024 International Songwriting Competition. She graduated from the Australian Independent Record Labels Association’s 2023 ‘Women In Music’ mentorship program under the guidance of ARIA Award winner Fanny Lumsden, and - despite suffering profound, permanent hearing loss in one ear in 2022 - that same year played over 120 shows. Her debut album - recorded and co-produced by De Angelis and her partner Paul Bain (Travis Collins, Kirsty Lee Akers) in their private studio in Brisbane - is due for release in early 2025.
