The Human Element

The Human Element formed in 2015 out of a side project created by O’Fosho guitarist, Matt Johnson under the moniker ‘Matty J and Friends.” Johnson brought together fellow O’Fosho bassist, Andrew Overby and Sovereign Sect drummer, Seth Holden to join him for the project. The group played a couple of gigs as a trio until, Holden suggested to Johnson, asking long time friend, pianist and Concordia music school graduate, Kari Marie Steen, also known for her work with trumpeter, Willie Waldman to join them. ‘Matty J and Friends’ had previously been a rotating lineup but after some rehearsal time and a few gigs, it was impossible for the group to deny the musical connection and comradery that was being created and decided to lock in the lineup, drop the old moniker and move forward with the project. The Human Element prides themselves in the idea that they are a family and that strong bonds create great things. They encourage you all to come be part of the family and together we can create something special.
