About Zach Bellas

Zach Bellas is a three-piece rock band currently based in Baltimore, Maryland, and named after its front man - American musician, producer, and founder of the independent recording label SMB Records. Zach Bellas features Tom McAteer on drums, Kyle Hadley on bass and backing vocals, & Zach Bellas on guitar and vocals.

In 2019, the band began recording a full-length album with veteran producer J. Robbins (Jawbox, Clutch, Against Me!) at the Magpie Cage Studio in Baltimore Maryland. The sessions would need to be cut short however, due to the coronavirus pandemic that began in early 2020. Luckily, they were able to complete a few tracks from those sessions remotely and release a four song EP called This Was Not The Plan in July of 2020.

The EP received some very positive attention amongst music writers who described the songs as:

'Something truly special, both production-wise and lyrically'
- Keep Walking Music - 8/7/2020

'An appetizing work with attractive songs... 90s essence and stimulating alternative country textures'
- Velvety - 8/3/2020

'R.E.M. and folk dressed charms of indie and rock'
- Come Here Floyd - 8/13/2020

The band also had some very ambitious plans for touring with both a summer and fall tour booked for 2020 and a combined total of 156 shows across the USA. However, in a heartbreaking turn of events, all of those shows would have to be canceled due to the continued spread of Covid-19.

At the beginning of 2021, the trio would begin recording a full length album of all new material at Ivakota Studios in downtown Washington, DC. In another bizarre and unexpected turn of events, production of the record would be abruptly interrupted when an angry mob protesting the presidential election results of 2020, stormed the US Capitol building which was a short distance from the studio. The band would have to flee the city after a curfew was issued for the entire district.

Despite several setbacks, the band would successfully release an eight song full length album called No Questions No Answers at the end of April 2021. Most of the lyrical content on No Questions No Answers deals with the confusion most people were feeling at the time and the elusive search for some semblance of truth in a world filled with false and misleading information.

Once again the album would find very positive feedback from both fans and the music media:

'Zach Bellas makes it clear to us that his voice is a gift from the angels'
- Indie Criollo - 5/22/2021

'The melodies are stunning and mesh with Zach’s voice perfectly. intoxicating sweetness and strength hidden in the recesses of the notes, this gifted band slams hearts with insistence and elegance'
- The Independent Spirits - 5/4/2021

Though they would do several short runs through the Midwest and up and down the east coast throughout the year, the band would finally get to go out on a proper tour of the US in the fall of 2021. Hitting cities in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, California, New Mexico, Texas, Alabama, South Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland - they would vastly expand their fan base across the contiguous United States.

In 2022, the band hopes to finally get a chance to finish the album they began recording in 2019 with J. Robbins and do as many live shows as humanly possible across the USA.
