About The JurassiC
Take funk, jazz, and pop music and put it in a blender. Add a dash of soul, and you are deep in the groove of The JurassiC. After the band’s release of their first self-titled EP in March 2012, The JurassiC has plugged their sound into a 70’s funk machine, twisting pocket bass lines, and jazz drums with a backbeat, with colorful improvisational melodies and sweet punch-packing vocals. Their most recent EP Follow Me beautifully illustrates this combination. (http://thejurassic.bandcamp.com) This colorful South Bay group started from jazz roots and found its original sound by mashing classic songs with hip-hop beats. Fast forward to present day, and the energy and infectious grooves from The JurassiC make it impossible to sit still. Bandleader Jackie Gage is an up-and-coming songbird known for her smooth vocals and funky renditions of popular songs. Guitarist Chris Main’s love for the Blues sneaks out in his shredding solos and heart-pounding strum patterns. “Maestro Bennett” (Bennett Roth-Newell) adds the dramatic touches to songs with his jazz-inspired fills. Multi-instrumentalist Will Bohrer’s disco’esque bass lines bring head-bobbing energy to the room. And newest band member John Kellett digs into the pocket, channeling funky rhythms from music legends past. This group is forging its path, hosting their recent EP release party at chic San Jose venue the Pagoda, headlining the Lights and Music concert series at City Lights Theater in May 2012, and performing at the San Jose Jazz Summer Fest for two years in a row; set to close the Gordon Biersch Stage in 2013. future funk :: san jose, ca http://thejurassicmusic.com
