About Louis Stapleton
Louis was late to formal piano tuition. At 16 years of age he went from 1st to 6th grade AMEB exams in 10 months.
Louis Stapleton’s first tertiary music studies were at the Franz Liszt Hochschule in Weimar, Germany, under the mentorship of Russian legend, Leonid Chizhik . He then completed his bachelor degree with high distinction at the Hochschule fuer Tanz und Musik in Cologne, the largest music academy in Germany under the tutelage of Florian Ross, Hubert Nuss and Hendrik Soll.
He is now based in Sydney, performing and composing across a range of formats and genres such as jazz, funk, pop and electronic music.
In 2011 Louis was invited to play and give workshops at the Matrucci Jazz Festival (Italy) as a member of the Manfred Bruendl quartet.
In 2012 the Louis Stapleton Trio were invited to play a live-to-air concert at the prestigious Loft venue in Cologne as part of the WDR Campus Jazz program.
In 2013 the Louis Stapleton trio won the Sparda Jazz Award and headlined the final night of the Dusseldorfer Jazz Rally.
That same year his trio also won the Young Munich Jazz prize.
In September 2013 the Louis Stapleton Trio performed at the popular Audi Jazz Festival in Cologne.
In 2014 Louis won the Duesseldorf Steinway Piano Competition
In January 2014 he was named “newcomer of the month” by Germany's largest online jazz magazine jazzzeitung.de
Louis has shared the stage with jazz heavyweights such as John Morrison, George WashingMachine, Bob Montgomery, Claus Doldinger, Mattias Bergmann, Carl Morgan, Jonathan Zwartz, Hamish Stuart, Phil Stack, Brendan Clark , Dave Goodman, Tim Firth and Liam Burrows. He has participated in workshops with jazz theorist Mark Levine and pianists Kenny Barron, John Taylor, Aaron Parks and Alan Broadbent.
Louis has been a prolific composer since the age of 17, with over 50 APRA registered compositions and numerous themes currently broadcast on ABC Radio National.
