Members of The Apollo Winds enjoy teaching and performance careers that span from Central Ohio to many parts of the United States. They are graduates of the nation's top music schools and conservatories, which include The Ohio State University, The Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Northwestern University, The Hartt School of Music, and The Cleveland Institute of Music. As music educators, they enjoy teaching at colleges and universities, secondary schools, music camps, and as private woodwind instructors. Members of the ensemble hold positions with many symphony orchestras in Central Ohio. They have also performed with notable music organizations, such as the Columbus Symphony, the Springfield Symphony, the Roanoke Symphony, and the Midland-Odessa Symphony Orchestra. They are the founding members of the McConnell Arts Center Chamber Orchestra, which is under the direction of the ensemble's clarinetist, Antoine T. Clark. Members have won awards in music competitions and have performed at national and international music festivals. The ensemble formed in the spring of 2012 and since then has performed at educational institutions, such as Denison University, The Ohio State University, and The McConnell Arts Center of Worthington. The ensemble specializes in woodwind quintet staples and new compositions.
Flutist, Erin Helgeson Torres, teaches flute at Ohio Northern University and is currently completing an Artist Diploma at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music. She earned a Doctorate in Music as a Fellow and Teaching Associate at Ohio State with Katherine Borst Jones in 2012. She performed with the WASBE International Orchestra and was winner of the 2009 Women in Music Columbus Competition, the 2010 COFA Young Artists Competition and the 2013 Upper Midwest Flute Association Young Artist Competition. She is a prizewinner at the Flute Society of Kentucky, Mid-Atlantic Flute Society, and National Flute Association Orchestral Excerpt Competitions. Dr. Torres was 2010 Concerto winner at OSU. She performs with several local symphonies, including as Principal Flutist of the Central Ohio Symphony and as an Associate Musician of the Columbus, Springfield, Westerville and Lima Symphonies. Dr. Torres recently performed as a winner of the National Flute Association Masterclass Competition and conducted the empirical portion of her document research in France thanks to the 2011 National Sigma Alpha Iota Career Grant. Dr. Torres and her husband, Michael, perform together regularly in the flute/saxophone pairing, Tower Duo.
Oboist, Bradley Walsh is an active orchestral musician. He is a member of the Springfield, Central Ohio, Newark-Granville, and South East Ohio Symphony Orchestras. Dr. Walsh has also performed with other symphonies in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Virginia. In addition to his orchestral playing, Dr. Walsh has performed chamber music with many ensembles including, Wind Works, Favorable Winds Quintet, Columbus Camerata Quintet, and the former Columbus Bach Ensemble. Dr. Walsh was a student of oboe artist Humbert Lucarelli at the Hartt School of Music, and holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Ohio State University. Dr. Walsh is also an accomplished educator and has taught at public schools for nine years and recently earned the honor of Teacher of the Year for his current school in the Columbus City School District.
Clarinetist, Antoine T. Clark earned education and performance degrees from The Ohio State University, The Cincinnati-Conservatory of Music, and Virginia Commonwealth University. His teachers include James Pyne, Theodore Oien, Linnea Nereim, Ronald de Kant, Dr. Charles West, and Dr. Richard Schwartz. He is currently furthering his studies in the Master of Music Orchestral Studies program at The Ohio State University with Marshall Haddock. Dr. Clark has participated in music festivals both nationally and internationally. These include the Opera Thearte and Music Festival of Lucca, Italy; the Barga Opera Festival of Barga, Italy; the Ash Lawn Opera Festival, Charlottesville, VA; the Gateways Music Festival, Rochester, NY; the "Tutti" New Music Festival at Denison University and the “Now” New Music Festival at Capital University. His orchestral experience includes Principal Clarinetist of the Detroit Symphony Civic Orchestra, Principal Clarinetist of the Dearborn Symphony in Dearborn, MI., and Principal Clarinetist of the Ash Lawn Opera Festival in Charlottesville, VA. He has performed with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, the Harlem Symphony, the Soulful Symphony, the Sphinx Symphony, the Central Ohio Symphony, the New Albany Symphony, the Mansfield Symphony, and the Westerville Symphony. Dr. Clark is also an Associate Musician with the Columbus Symphony. Previous academic appointments include Clarinet Instructor at Denison University, Interim Assistant Professor of Woodwinds at Wayne State College and Adjunct Professor of Woodwinds at Randolph College. Dr. Clark’s current teaching positions include, Clarinet Instructor and Symphonic Band Director at Camp Encore-Coda in Sweden, Maine, Woodwind and Piano Instructor at Music Royale in Powell Ohio, Woodwind Instructor at The Jefferson Academy of Music at OSU, and Adjunct Instructor of Woodwinds at Kenyon College. He is also Music Director and Conductor of the McConnell Arts Center Chamber Orchestra in Worthington, Ohio.
Saxophonist, Michael Rene Torres is currently on faculty at Muskingum University where he teaches saxophone and composition. He is also an Assistant Dean of Student Life at the Brevard Music Center Festival and Institute and before this he was the Director of Bands at Ormond Beach Middle School. Furthermore, Michael currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Society of Composers, Inc., is a Co-Editor for the bimonthly SCI Newsletter, and was the Assistant Event Coordinator for The Ohio State University Contemporary Music Festival from 2009-2013. Dr. Torres is also an award winning composer with compositions performed at conventions and universities throughout the USA. As a performer he was awarded First Place in the 2010 OSU Concerto Competition, was selected as the First Place Winner in the Graduate Performance Competition of the 2009 Penn State University Single Reed Summit, and competed as a Semi-Finalist in the 2013 William C. Byrd International Young Artist Competition. Michael is an active chamber musician and performs regularly with the flute and saxophone duet, Tower Duo (www.facebook.com/thetowerduo) and the saxophone duet, Protean Duo (www.facebook.com/proteanduo). Dr. Torres completed a Doctorate in Saxophone Performance (2012) and a Masters Degree in Composition (2013) from The Ohio State University. He earned a Masters Degree in Saxophone Performance (2005) at Northwestern University and prior to this received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education (2004) from Stetson University.

He has also performed with the Ohio Light Opera, Wooster, OH, Heidelberg Castle Festival, Heidelberg Germany, Auckland Chamber Orchestra Festival, Auckland New Zealand and Midland-Odessa Symphony Orchestra, Midland, TX-seated principal bassoon in each orchestra. Scott holds a Master of Music in Bassoon Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, Cleveland, OH, under David McGill, and the Bachelor of Music in Bassoon Performance, from the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY, where he studied bassoon under John Hunt. A native of Central Ohio, Scott studied as a young student with Betsy Sturdevant-principal Bassoonist with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. As a student, Scott was passionate about chamber music and performed in woodwind quintets extensively as an opportunity to study quintet literature. Teaching is also a passion of Scott. He currently teaches a private bassoon studio and is dedicated to teaching bassoon at a high level to his students. Several of his students have attended some of the top Music Performing colleges in the world.

Dr. Torres recently performed as a winner of the National Flute Association Masterclass Competition and conducted the empirical portion of her document research in France thanks to the 2011 National Sigma Alpha Iota Career Grant. Dr. Torres and her husband, Michael, perform together regularly in the flute/saxophone pairing, Tower Duo.
Oboist, Bradley Walsh is an active orchestral musician. He is a member of the Springfield, Central Ohio, Newark-Granville, and South East Ohio Symphony Orchestras. Dr. Walsh has also performed with other symphonies in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Virginia. In addition to his orchestral playing, Dr. Walsh has performed chamber music with many ensembles including, Wind Works, Favorable Winds Quintet, Columbus Camerata Quintet, and the former Columbus Bach Ensemble. Dr. Walsh was a student of oboe artist Humbert Lucarelli at the Hartt School of Music, and holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Ohio State University. Dr. Walsh is also an accomplished educator and has taught at public schools for nine years and recently earned the honor of Teacher of the Year for his current school in the Columbus City School District.
Clarinetist, Antoine T. Clark earned education and performance degrees from The Ohio State University, The Cincinnati-Conservatory of Music, and Virginia Commonwealth University. His teachers include James Pyne, Theodore Oien, Linnea Nereim, Ronald de Kant, Dr. Charles West, and Dr. Richard Schwartz. He is currently furthering his studies in the Master of Music Orchestral Studies program at The Ohio State University with Marshall Haddock. Dr. Clark has participated in music festivals both nationally and internationally. These include the Opera Thearte and Music Festival of Lucca, Italy; the Barga Opera Festival of Barga, Italy; the Ash Lawn Opera Festival, Charlottesville, VA; the Gateways Music Festival, Rochester, NY; the "Tutti" New Music Festival at Denison University and the “Now” New Music Festival at Capital University. His orchestral experience includes Principal Clarinetist of the Detroit Symphony Civic Orchestra, Principal Clarinetist of the Dearborn Symphony in Dearborn, MI., and Principal Clarinetist of the Ash Lawn Opera Festival in Charlottesville, VA. He has performed with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, the Harlem Symphony, the Soulful Symphony, the Sphinx Symphony, the Central Ohio Symphony, the New Albany Symphony, the Mansfield Symphony, and the Westerville Symphony. Dr. Clark is also an Associate Musician with the Columbus Symphony. Previous academic appointments include Clarinet Instructor at Denison University, Interim Assistant Professor of Woodwinds at Wayne State College and Adjunct Professor of Woodwinds at Randolph College. Dr. Clark’s current teaching positions include, Clarinet Instructor and Symphonic Band Director at Camp Encore-Coda in Sweden, Maine, Woodwind and Piano Instructor at Music Royale in Powell Ohio, Woodwind Instructor at The Jefferson Academy of Music at OSU, and Adjunct Instructor of Woodwinds at Kenyon College. He is also Music Director and Conductor of the McConnell Arts Center Chamber Orchestra in Worthington, Ohio.
Saxophonist, Michael Rene Torres is currently on faculty at Muskingum University where he teaches saxophone and composition. He is also an Assistant Dean of Student Life at the Brevard Music Center Festival and Institute and before this he was the Director of Bands at Ormond Beach Middle School. Furthermore, Michael currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Society of Composers, Inc., is a Co-Editor for the bimonthly SCI Newsletter, and was the Assistant Event Coordinator for The Ohio State University Contemporary Music Festival from 2009-2013. Dr. Torres is also an award winning composer with compositions performed at conventions and universities throughout the USA. As a performer he was awarded First Place in the 2010 OSU Concerto Competition, was selected as the First Place Winner in the Graduate Performance Competition of the 2009 Penn State University Single Reed Summit, and competed as a Semi-Finalist in the 2013 William C. Byrd International Young Artist Competition. Michael is an active chamber musician and performs regularly with the flute and saxophone duet, Tower Duo (www.facebook.com/thetowerduo) and the saxophone duet, Protean Duo (www.facebook.com/proteanduo). Dr. Torres completed a Doctorate in Saxophone Performance (2012) and a Masters Degree in Composition (2013) from The Ohio State University. He earned a Masters Degree in Saxophone Performance (2005) at Northwestern University and prior to this received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education (2004) from Stetson University.
Bassoonist, Scott Hanratty performs extensively throughout Central Ohio. He has played with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Central Ohio Symphony, Westerville Symphony and New Albany Symphony. He has also performed with the Ohio Light Opera, Wooster, OH, Heidelberg Castle Festival, Heidelberg Germany, Auckland Chamber Orchestra Festival, Auckland New Zealand and Midland-Odessa Symphony Orchestra, Midland, TX-seated principal bassoon in each orchestra. Scott holds a Master of Music in Bassoon Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, Cleveland, OH, under David McGill, and the Bachelor of Music in Bassoon Performance, from the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY, where he studied bassoon under John Hunt. A native of Central Ohio, Scott studied as a young student with Betsy Sturdevant-principal Bassoonist with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. As a student, Scott was passionate about chamber music and performed in woodwind quintets extensively as an opportunity to study quintet literature. Teaching is also a passion of Scott. He currently teaches a private bassoon studio and is dedicated to teaching bassoon at a high level to his students. Several of his students have attended some of the top Music Performing colleges in the world.
