Zurich Jazz Orchestra

The Zurich Jazz Orchestra (ZJO) is a professionally managed orchestra with a well-functioning concert business, a loyal audience, proven partnerships and a versatile but distinctive repertoire. At the heart of the orchestra are 20 professional soloists: 5 trumpets, 5 saxophones, 4 trombones, tuba, horn, piano, bass, guitar and drums. The Zurich Jazz Orchestra skillfully combines elements of both mainstream and avant-garde, big band sound and solo improvisations. The concert cycles are complemented by the orchestra's own podcast series “Zurich Jazz Talks,” CD productions, an internship program for young talent, and guest performances.
The Zurich Jazz Orchestra is a reliable and important employer of professional jazz musicians from across the canton and an enrichment for Zurich's cultural life. The Zurich Jazz Orchestra celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2025. Muscial Director: Ed Partyka.
