About 36?
36? is an award-winning internationally touring art-rock band based out of Calgary, AB. Originally formed by Taylor Cochrane in two-thousand-and-late, 36? became the given name for Cochranes frantic basement musings. Moving through their formative years a medically-supercharged-autistic-child, Taylor had trouble making friends, and turned to art as their pathway to self-exploration and at 17-years-old put together their first release. The album: Love, Hate, Bondage! By 36?. It was emotionally jarring, stimulant fueled and all in all difficult to listen to record that Taylor burned, pressed and printed by hand. They would then go to school with a backpack filled with CDs and hand them out to unsuspecting kids in class.
Now, over a decade later, 36? has grown in size, they regularly play shows all over North America, they have heard their songs on the radio, they have had several award-winning and/or critically acclaimed releases. Once, when 36? was first gaining notoriety, they even got to open for one of young Taylor Cochranes biggest influences as a budding artist, The Ataris.
Much time has passed since 36? first took it’s baby steps but for Taylor Cochrane one thing remains the same, an unrelenting pull towards musical exploration and self-discovery. The sociologically nightmare of growing up as an autistic youth in the ADHD-panic era couldn’t hold them back from finding themselves in their art. More recently, on tour between music festivals 36? was in a triple roll-over in their live-in tour van on the icy highways in Colorado, and still 3 months later Cochrane found themselves back there, driving on the same highways that had once nearly taken their lives, on another adventure, with art leading the way.
