Stonecake

STONECAKE was formed in July 1988 in Borlaenge,
Sweden, by guitarist/singer Tommy Liljegren (previously
Andersson) & drummer Marcus Kaellstroem.
By 1990, Klas Haegglund had joined on bass. Wire
Records signed them that year, and their debut album
“under the bike tree” was released at the end of 1991. It
was produced by the now world famous Jacob Hellner
(signed Rammstein, Clawfinger, among many others).

Stonecake’s first single “Tuesday afternoon” quickly
become a smash hit and enjoyed a great deal of airtime
in Sweden and neighbouring countries. Stonecake won
a Grammy for “best newcomers” in 1992 and toured
Northern Europe considerably in the next coming years.

The follow up albums “Acoustic toilets” (1993) and "In
the middle of nowhere" (1995) where also released in
Japan. Per Martensson replaced Klas on bass 1994.

The 4th album “Some people” was released on
Stonecake’s own label, "Acoustic Toilets Records", in
2000. It scored good reviews in the southwest USA,
which resulted in three overseas tours in 2001-2002.

Stonecake celebrated 30 years since the success of
“Under the bike tree”. Klas returned to the band. The
December 2022 concert in Borlaenge, was recorded
and is soon to be released as “30 Years Anniversary
Live”.

STONECAKE bildades i Borlänge i juli 1988 av gitarristen/sångaren Tommy Liljegren (tidigare Andersson) & trummisen Marcus Källström.
Under våren 1990 hade Klas Hägglund anslutit som basist och bandet fick skivkontrakt med Wire Records i slutet av året. Debutalbumet "under the bike tree" släpptes i slutet av 1991. Det producerades av den nu världsberömde Jacob Hellner. (Rammstein, Clawfinger, m.fl.).

Stonecakes första singel "Tuesday afternoon" blev snabbt en dundersuccé och spelades flitigt i radion i Sverige och grannländerna. Stonecake vann en Grammis för "bästa nykomlingar" 1992 och turnerade i Nordeuropa under de kommande åren.

Uppföljningsalbumen "Acoustic toilets" (1993) och "In the middle of nowhere" (1995) släpptes även i Japan. Per Mårtensson ersatte Klas Hägglund 1994.

Det fjärde albumet "Some people" (2000) släpptes på Stonecakes egna etikett "Acoustic Toilets Records". Det fick bra recensioner i sydvästra USA, vilket resulterade i tre utlandsturneer 2001-2002.

Stonecake firade 30 år sedan succén med "Under the bike tree". Klas återvände till bandet. Spelningen i Borlänge, 9 december 2022, spelades in och kommer att börja släppas som "30 Years Anniversary Live" fr.o.m. 24 januari-2024.
