About Carl Norén

After ten exciting and rewarding years with Borlänges finest band, Sugarplum Fairy, singer Carl Norén displays some new sides of himself. With his debut solo album, “Owls”, he offers a wider ranger of emotions and slightly darker tunes. But the pop feeling is of course still there, all through the album. As Carl started studying literature, he discovered new worlds and stories that evoked new images in him. These were filtered as inspiration for new songs, which have slowly grown to fruition. There is something soft, warm, classical and cinematic in the entire album, something that Carl has been careful to care for and refine. To be free and without compromises in this process has allowed him to widen his spectrum. Stories from life, dramatic turns and personal reflections take on grandiose expressions in both music and lyrics. Carl has written the material on “Owls” and has also produced the record (together with Mats Bjärke from Mando Diao). He describes the process as one where the idea for the song is like a seed that slowly grows, but is never entirely ready until the final stages of production. He’s had a chance to try out the new material live, as opening act for Mando Diao’s tour of Europe last autumn. The response was very positive, and to have performed the new songs for approximately 100.000 people during a short period of time further strengthened his self confidence. The success was already there. The recording of “Owls” developed the already strong material further. Carl’s admiration for romantic songwriters is there as a spice, but in a dish entirely his own. The consistent thing is that the music somehow, magically, caresses his lyrics, so beautifully sung in a loving relationship with the arrangements and production. - I want to share the music with other people. The music is totally limitless and creates dreamlike images and emotions in the listener, just like a good movie or a good book. I want grand interior landscapes to unfold when you’re listening to the record, Carl says. With a love for music
