Martin Barre was lead guitarist in Jethro Tull for 47 years, though his profile was always muted compared to wild-eyed front man, the flautist on one leg, Ian Anderson. Although it was Anderson who wrote and took full credit for writing all of Tull's material (except the occasional tip of the hat to JS Bach), Martin Barre's guitar sound shaped the overall musicality, both live and on record. When Ian Anderson effectively rendered the band a solo enterprise with back-up musicians employed as and when to make up the numbers, rather than seem like bona fide band members, Martin went his own way, saddled with the task of writing/recording his own music, while being a living, breathing Jethro Tull tribute act. Many years later, I think Martin (now 79 years old) has the balance perfectly. Last night at Bush Hall with Dan Crisp on vocals and guitar, Alan Thompson on bass and guest Alex Hart, Martin performed two one-hour sets of unparalleled musicianship that was spellbinding. Although Martin is possibly more identified as an electric guitarist, he is phenomenally adept at both acoustic guitar and mandolin. There are Tull classics aplenty, such as Sossity You're A Woman, Fat Man, Hymn 43, Teacher, Life's A Long Song, One White Duck, but there's times for plenty of Barre compositions, as well as numbers by Don Henley and Steve Winwood. I was frankly relieved to find the venue seated, as it is more normally a standing gig. Really pleasant Thai meal beforehand with Mark Dyde and Daniel Richler, a very gentle acoustic evening with the onetime lead guitarist with a Grammy winning band for Heavy Metal. Afterwards, I got to meet the band and get my Passion Play bookset signed, as well as picking up a signed live album at the merch desk. Good times. Real music, real musicians, real butter...

Excellent show with an intimacy and musicianship that is unparalleled. Well, you expect it from the longest tenured guitarist in the band Jethro Tull. His solo show is a collection of his own work, tall classics, and sometimes a few surprises. I think you will really enjoy it.

Martin is true treasure, humble and an example that you're never too old to rock and roll! He still brings the chops that made him legendary in Tull, and his bandmates Alan Thompson on bass and Dan Crisp on vocals and guitar are fantastic! This tour they are taking a deeper dive into the vast Tull catalog and playing some gems not played live in many years.

Fantastic show by Martin and his band, Martin is age defying, engaging and playing better than ever. Awesome set list, if you're a Tull fan don't miss this tour as Martin digs deep into the Tull catalog for songs that haven't been played live in forever.

An absolute thrill to hear this master of the guitar perform Aqualung live. Special mention to Dan Crisp who’s vocal was faithful to Anderson without feeling like you were watching a tribute. Go see!

3rd time seeing Martin, he featured his background singers for 4 of their acoustic numbers, it was the worst of the 3 times I've seen him since 79. Tull songs seemed watered down, vocals thin, jt was cool he has Clive the original drummer from tull playing... band was great, set list, not so great

That was absurdly good. The songs sounded so fresh and kickass. Revitalized. His original material also rocked. Wow.

Stellar show by Martin and the band, great new material and many classic Jethro Tull gems intermixed. Second set was brilliant, Martin's raw power and energy had the place rocking out! Martin Barre band is a must see I'd they're playing anywhere near you.
