About The Way Away

Since their early days, Minneapolis-based The Way Away have been making a name for themselves with a blend of catchy vocals, fast tempos, and punky hooks. They've built a reputation by playing anywhere from bars and basements to big-name venues and youth centers. They just released their second EP Something I Never Wanted and are riding high on it and new single/music video "Six Feet Over." The band got its start in late 2012, refining their live show and songwriting until they released their debut EP Carry On in 2014. That release, plus their music video for single "Retrospect," helped expose them to audiences outside of the Twin Cities. In 2015, they were selected as winners of the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands and performed on their local date of the Vans Warped Tour Now, in 2016, The Way Away are poised to explode to the next level with the February release of follow-up EP Something I Never Wanted. The EP was recorded and engineered by lead guitarist Jeff Engler, mixed by Xander Moser at Treespeak Studios, and mastered by Paul Leavitt (I Call Fives, All Time Low). Lyrically, the EP focuses on struggles with depression and giving up on others, as well as yourself. The music video for "Six Feet Over" draws inspiration from the song's lyrics. It's about people you would go out on a ledge for, who in turn are the ones who end up pushing you off. You can only take the fall for a person so many times before it becomes the death of you. The band took this idea and had people write down a sentence about someone who took them for granted, letting the grim reaper put those experiences to death. As The Way Away take on 2016, they plan to spread their infectious sound as far as the eye can see. While that involves touring throughout the summer, they are also in the running to play their local date of the Vans Warped Tour again this year. Though new songwriting is also in the mix, the band is eager to hit the road. No hype, no gimmicks; just some dudes making music.
