About We The Folk

We The Folk: fiery folk-fusion coming to your ears from a collection of voices and instruments! Los Angeles-based We The Folk sings the songs of the folk, young and old, and gives everyone a reason to dance. We The Folk began as a trio performing impromptu shows in public spaces around the UCLA campus. Student demand rapidly transformed these “pop up” performances into dance parties and official campus events. We The Folk grew into a recognizable campus presence after headlining the World Music and Movement Festival and opening for David Grisman as part of the Center of the Art of Performance in Royce Hall. As a quintet, We The Folk has played shows in major Los Angeles venues such as The Troubadour, Hotel Cafe, and The Mint. The band holds several residencies around the greater Los Angeles area. After playing together for a few years, We The Folk has assumed the genre of “LA Folk”, happily representing the voice of the Angeleno and enveloping its audiences in a dynamic and energetic experience. In 2014 We The Folk took the Las Doñas Award for Best Band Entry with "Won't You Come Back" at UCLA's Spring Sing. Additionally, We The Folk was recently featured on NPR's Alt.Latino as a favorite submission of the 2015 NPR Tiny Desk Concert Contest. This past April We The Folk released its debut album, WTF, available for streaming and purchase on Bandcamp and Spotify. Past performances: Troubadour, West Hollywood Hotel Cafe, Los Angeles The Mint, Los Angeles Molly Malone's, Los Angeles Hopmonk Tavern - Sabastopol, CA Center for the Art of Performance, UCLA - Royce Hall Terrace Center for the Art of Performance, UCLA - Freud Playhouse Courtyard Radio 91x New Years’ Celebration – San Diego Hilton Hotel University Club, San Diego Bay of Pines - Monterey, CA Seven Bar & Kitchen, Santa Barbara, CA Moonfire Estate, Malibu Villain's Tavern, Los Angeles Witzend, Venice UCLA Arts in the Union Unofficial Westwood Halloween Parade And a number of pop-up performances around Los Angeles. We the Folk weaves together world folk and indie dance pop. http://www.wethefolk.com
