Ike Turner

Ike Turner born on the 5th November 1931 in Clarksdale, Mississippi in the southern states of the USA, was a legendary bandleader, musician and one time husband to Tina Turner(Nee. Anna Mae Bullock).

Ike formed his first band; The Kings Of Rhythm in the 40’s and recorded at Sun Studios. The band as well as recording their own material also worked as session musicians backeing artists such asHowlin' Wolf.

Ike married Tina in 1958 shortly after she joined the band as singer. Ike predominantly wrote music in the soul or rhythm and blues style and had big hits with singles such as ‘Tra La La La La’.

By the end of the sixties Tina had started to produce solo work although Ike’s name was still linked to her work ‘River Deep Mountain High’ was produced by Phil Spector with no input from Ike, but his name still appeared as a co-artist.
Ike was however involved in their biggest hit in 1973 ‘Nut Bush City Limits’.

In 1976 Ike and Tina where divorced.
In 1982 Ike was arrested and jailed on drug charges
In 1991 Ike and Tina where inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame.


Ike Turner died on 12th December 2007 in San Diego
