The Question

The Question The Question was the first, and arguably most significant mod power pop band ever to emerge from Los Angeles. Formed in the 80s, the trio built a steady following based on their legendary live shows and the songwriting of Tony Rugolo, whose tunes often featured strong melodies and jazz-influenced chord changes (Rugolo's late father, Pete, was an award-winning jazz composer and arranger). And despite their dedication to the scene from which they sprang, The Question's music – propelled by Rugolo's vocals, David White's powerful drumming, and Phil Cusimano's mastery of the 60s-influenced Rickenbacker sound – often transcended labels, drawing the admiration of non-Mods as well. Notable music journalist Jack Rabid of The Big Takeover stated recently “It's one of the great mysteries why this power pop band wasn't a household name. The Question is one of the best bands ever to come out of Los Angeles.”
