About Cinemuerte

CineMuerte are a portuguese rock band formed in Lisbon in 2002 by Sophia Vieira and João Vaz.

Within eight months of their birth, CineMuerte scored two tributes: to The Cure (Our Voices/Equinoxe Records – GERMANY- ‘Close to Me’) and to The Misfits (Portuguese Nightmare/Raging Planet Records – PORTUGAL- ‘Where Eagles Dare’).

On 2006, Cinemuerte released their debut album ‘Born from Ashes’, on the independent label Raging Planet Records. The album was produced by Armando Teixeira (Ik Mux, Boris Ex-Machina, Da Weasel, Bizarra Locomotiva). The debut single ‘Stuck in a Moment’ was a quick hit, garnering airplay on Antena 3/RDP and paving the way for another single, ‘Underwater ’.

Between 2006 and 2007, they played live all across the portuguese musical landscape: they opened for HIM and My Chemical Romance. Cinemuerte also played at the two largest portuguese rock summer festivals, Vilar de Mouros and SBSR- on 25 May 2006, Cinemuerte performed in front of more than 20,000 people with Korn, Within Temptation, Moonspell, Ramp and Bizarra Locomotiva.

In 2007, Cinemuerte have also appeared on ‘E se depois’ tribute album to Mão Morta with the song Chabala, one of the most acclaimed alternative band in Portugal.

On December 2008, CineMuerte issued their follow-up album ‘Aurora Core’ on Raging Planet Records,

‘Aurora Core’ featured nine tracks including the first single 'Air’, recorded with special guests: Pedro Cardoso (Dollar Lama) on drums and guitarist Ricardo Amorim (Moonspell). The album was mixed and mastered in Germany by Waldemar Sorychta (Lacuna Coil, The Gathering, Tiamat, Samael).

In 2009, guitarists Tiago Menaia, Fred Gonçalves and drummer Sérgio Lopo joined the band.

On February 2009, the band performed at the 'World Guitar Hero Tour Challenge' event at Lisbon's Hard Rock Café.

On April 2009, the band was invited to play at the 'Twilight' DVD Release Party in Lisbon. Later, on February 2012, they were invited again to perform at the 'Twilight- Breaking Dawn' DVD Release Party.

In August 2009, Cinemuerte recorded the new wave song by British singer Kim Wilde ‘Kids in America’ released on the Metropolis 79/89 album (Carbono Records, Raging Planet & Metropolis).

In 2011, Cinemuerte’s album ‘Wild Grown’ was released: the Cinemuerte’s third long-length was mixed and mastered by Beau Burchell, american musician from Saosin, acclaimed record producer, and audio engineer from Orange County, California (USA).
Cinemuerte finally signed with the major Sony Music Entertainment for a worldwide distribution deal.

In 2012, guitarist Tiago Menaia left the band to focus on his other band The Temple. He was never replaced.
Three years following the release of "Wild Grown", portuguese alternative rock group Cinemuerte released the EP entitled ‘DHIST’, on Raging Planet Records. The artwork was signed by Tommy Ingberg- the talented swedish photographer awarded by PX3 Prix de La Photographie Paris. 'Dog’ was the first single to be revealed from this new EP. The official music video for the “Dog” single was directed by filmmaker André Guiomar. In 2015, the video was selected for 12nd Black & White Audiovisual Festival.
