About glimmers (US)
Forming tight-knit bonds. Having a positive impact. Injecting the world with endlessly good vibes.
These are the cornerstones that make up the glimmers universe. Since their inception at the start of the decade, the three-piece have strived to create a space where you can be proud of yourself in every aspect. Living out your dreams no matter how vast, standing up for yourself when the world wants you to sit down and expressing yourself as boldly and beautifully as you possibly can is all in a day's work. Though at the core of everything, there is the desire to show what you and your friends can do if you set your mind to it. "Our intent when we first started glimmers was to create a project that encompasses the close bond we've always had as friends and share that love and friendship with our listeners," vocalist Maggie Schneider comments. "We're now at the point where we're unafraid to make a statement that's bigger than ourselves. Our intent is to build connections and empower the next generation to reclaim their power and pursue their wildest dreams with gumption."
Initially a five-piece, the band met through a mutual love of musical creativity within the vibrant Atlanta alternative scene, playing their first show as support for at a pop-punk covers band in New Orleans. Though previously aware of each other's endeavours, friendship soon took the forefront, and something deeper formed. Finding inspiration in Mayday Parade and The Band CAMINO as much as Demi Lovato and Lady Gaga, their palette is one brimming with screaming color and unwavering emotion. This has resulted in three EPs – 2020's 'Cluttered Heart', 2021's 'Worlds Apart' and 2023's 'Human Furnaces' – that bridge the gaps between defiant pop, cutesy pop-rock and thrilling pop-punk with vigor and vibrancy. Focusing on what it means to discover who you truly are and that means to those around you, every song is a diary entry full of lessons learned and life lived.
"It sounds cliche, but it's all about the journey and not the destination," Maggie smiles. "That there will always be ups and downs, but my younger self wished and dreamed that she'd be where I am now. The band has taught me that I'm stronger than I thought I was, and that other people can't define me. You’re the only one who can define yourself with your art and unique voice."
Such honesty in the face of what can be thrown at them has caught the attention of plenty throughout their journey so far. The band have played shows with Young Culture, Free Throw and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, performed at Emo Nite and So What?! Music Festival and toured the East and West coasts entirely off their own backs. They have even recently teamed up with We Are The In Crowd's Tay Jardine for a version of their defiant track 'Jaded', a moment that serves as a full circle validation for Maggie especially. Delivering such milestone moments so early in their adventure opens the door for endless possibilities as glimmers look to 2024 and beyond. Not letting the politics of the music industry get in the way of making the art that reflects them the best; a full-length is their next big project. Until then, they will continue loving every step they take as the three best friends they are.
"This band has allowed me to see the world, connect with amazing people I never would have met otherwise, and collaborate with some of my biggest inspirations,” Maggie beams. “I’m proud of being able to do that as an independent band. Now all we want is to create art we believe in, and hopefully, others believe in it as well."
