Lyle Lovett

My first concert at The Strand - what a gorgeous venue! I was up in the cheap seats and felt like there wasn’t a bad seat in the house. That said, and perhaps because Mr Lovett was chatty, the sound system didn’t allow for a crisp transition to dialogue and I couldn’t fully understand what he was saying. Honestly, I came for the music and wished he would have sung more and talked less about his kids. I imagine he’s tired of touring, especially being so close to home. Had been maybe 25 years since seeing him live and I’ve since retired while he’s still at it. I had my fill about 2/3 through the concert, so can’t comment on what happened after that.

We OVED it! We had stellar seats, right down front to see all of the action, total fun. The band was tight and flowing and Lyle was in top form as always. I got to see hime the next morning at the Los gatos Coffee Roasting Company and chat for a few minutes. Grand simply grand in all ways!

Must be the nicest guy in music.I thought this legend would just play the hits, but No.So generous was he about the various gifts his band had and their back stories that this turned into the most enjoyable rocknroll Q&A When he did sing the ravages of age and ill health told on his famous voice, but it didn't matter, such was his charm. The band,all impeccably turned out in evening suits,were themselves brilliant session men who were as sharp as their suits. The Ulster Hall itself was also a star, with its storied history and great acoustics No interval,he kept playing and talking,it was nearly 11pm, I was getting tired, but I didn't want it to end. This was a gig that will stay us for a long time.We might not see Lyle Lovett again but his good humour wit increased us.

First ever Lyle Lovett show. Absolutely unforgettable. From the 12 member band’s incredible musicianship, to the 3 backup singer’s impeccable harmony to Lyle’s captivating bantering with & storytelling to the audience between songs; seeing Lyle in concert is not to be missed. He is a living legend—and a total class act! 100% great experience across the board!!

What a great show by Lyle and the Large Band. Opening act was Shawn Colvin and KT Tunstall - so great to hear the two of them together. Lyle puts on a fabulous show - great storytelling and he brought to the stage the guy that helped get him started and had the crowd join in singing 'Happy Birthday' and let him play a tune in front of the Red Rocks crowd. Touching and reminds me of why Lyle Lovett is such a national (and Texas) treasure

He and Chris were fantastic. It was funny that they opened the show with a coin toss to see who it open. Very clever stunned. They were both intelligent and funny individuals as well as talented performers. Someone needs to tell the grand old Opry lighting person that some of their lighting was pointing directly at peoples faces so there were large portions of the song where you had to like hide your face in your lap to avoid getting cataracts. Maybe point those suckers up a little bit, flame other people in the balcony..,

This is the first I had ever seen Lyle Lovett live, and he was an enjoyable character and the setting with Leo Kottke, having this conversation and songs back-and-forth to each other, and to the audience was very enjoyable. I know the one, and only Leo Kottke song that was famous, and that wasn’t ever played, but all of his guitar solos were excellent and his conversation and Singing was very good also. In fact I must say that I enjoyed Leo Kottke more than Lyle Levitt, but he may very well be aware that already. I’m going to keep an eye out for more concerts at the Wabash Indiana venue that I’ve never been to before, but was very enjoyable and also they had many different eating locations around town around the downtown area and we took a vantage of that and had a great meal And a couple drinks before we ever went to the concert. This is the first I’ve ever really participated with this app but it’s been a good experience. I’ll be back again!

Great show, especially with Hays Carll opening (and then playing later with Lyle), as well as the guest appearance of Shawn Colvin for a few songs! Even more surprising and one of the coolest things that happened - for those of us still awake enough at the late hour to stay for the encore - was that Lyle and his band played until 12:45, and it was a really great experience to see them playing the last 3 or 4 songs at the ACL Moody Theater with just about 200 people left in the auditorium. It almost seemed like a private show for the few of us still there!

Lovett and his extraordinary band touched on an immense variety of American musical genres. Old time country, rock, jazz, jam improv, singer/songwriter, gospel, even touches of Dixieland were played at times. The band included celebrity legend drummer Russ Kunkel. Various configurations of the large ensemble played 3+ hours without a break. Lovett introduced every member proving himself an easygoing emcee. Just a great night of first class musicianship.

The concert and venue were wonderful. Lyle Lovett and his crew played close to 3 hours. Enjoyed the conversations Mr. Lovett had with the audience and with his crew. It was amazing that his friend Mr. Lloyd played a couple of his songs. Enjoyed when each musician was showcased and spoke about their music careers. The venue was awesome because it was super clean, organized, easy to find, comfortable, good seating everywhere, monitored for safety. It offered concessions and a mini coffee shop that I loved. The workers were friendly, helpful, and professional. Great parking. I had a magical evening! Thanks to everyone! 😊

It’s been 20+ years since we saw Lyell and his lovely large band. Lyle and his Acoustic Band had a wonderful take on his catalog and endeared us to this appellation. His band mates were fantastic. Loved the fiddle, especially when he “played it like a guitar”. Piano was great and lead guitarist was special. Bass guitarist kept TG’s beat and enjoyed the background vocals. Overall a truly magical experience. The 20 years slipped by so quickly…

It was amazing! The Rococo Theater is stunning and intimate. Not a bad seat in the house. Lyle Lovett makes you feel like a long lost friend and John Hiatt's voice feels like melted butterscotch. They told stories, sang songs and interacted with the audience. They are two incredible performers, musicians, writers and humans. The only thing I would change is I'd still be listening to them... did not want the show to end.

Incredible performance and masterclass musicianship. Lyle Lovett played for three hours! Loved his personal stories about songs, experiences and also those of all the band members. Moody Theater is the best venue in Austin. Easy to get to (park in the City Hall garage for $10, quick two block walk to Moody Theater) venue is not too big so you can see the stage, sound and production are fabulous! Lots of restaurants near by, easy walk to more night life after the show.

Another amazing performance by a master of storytelling. He was at his best being his folksy self, especially because it was the end of the tour and he was at home with relatives in attendance. Always love to hear his stories of how he grew up and he was happy to tell those tales last night. Oh, and the music was spectacular as well. And “no, I’m not from Texas (Jersey!) but Texas loves me anyway :-)” Lyle continues to be one of the best singer/songwriters of his - or any-generation.

It was a fantastic show. I feel so fortunate I was able to see Lyle and his big band in my home town with a great friend. Lyle created a warm vibe for the audience and for the many great musicians that shared the stage. The sound was awesome as was the facility overall. The staff at dpac are top notch. Helpful in every way.

How sweet Lyle picked T-town for his first date on a super-ambitious summer tour! Fifteen men on the stage for a night I won't soon forget, including legends Lee Sklar and Russ Kunkel on bass and drums. Loved songs from the new album including "the bacon song" Pig Meat Man, Her Loving Man aka The Queen of Know, and Pants is Overrated. We also got That's Right (You're Not From Texas), Penguins, If I Had a Boat and She's No Lady. Luke Bulla on violin was wonderful again (he played with the band when we saw them at the Fox in 2019) and he did a solo picking number perhaps marred a bit by feedback. Nothing is perfect, though acoustics in the great Fox Theater are SO fine! Long live Lyle Lovett and his Large Band!

Lyle started with a jazzy number accompanied only by his excellent bass player, something akin to what Tom Waits would do. Lovett filled the evening with a mix of bluegrass, country, blues, jazz, emotive ballads, and witty/funny dialogues. Surprisingly, the quiet ballads "Nobody Knows Me" and "North Dakota" were the most emotionally powerful songs. I did not expect to choke back tears at this show, but these two songs were so moving that I couldn't help it. He's a gifted singer, and could give Al Green some competition if he ever wanted to go the soul music route. Go see him if you can. You'll be glad you did. Jack Turner

Great to see and hear the remade 2020 version of the 'acoustic group' by Lyle Lovett for the first show of the winter/spring tour. Stellar musicianship by all; and to think a few new band members only met just before the show. Wow! The bluegrass heritage represented in the delivery and song choices was much appreciated.

This was not only my favorite of his shows, it is now officially my favorite concert in the last 50 years. It was profoundly musical, the arrangements flowing naturally, the instrumentation densities and volumes changing constantly like the very best classical and jazz ensembles and the overall design of the event itself masterfully aesthetic. His humor is wry and sneakily hilarious and endearing and heartbreaking. His generosity and obvious love and admiration for each spectacular band member bathed the stage in a warmth that I believe only he can create. His utterly humanistic yearning is my new totem pole around which I’ll dance forever.
