About Odd Hugo

Formed in summer 2012, Odd Hugo is a fresh Estonian act, already internationally acknowledged for its part mellow folkie, part heart-rending poet soundscapes and crowd hypnotic live emotion. For a fresh ear it would feel a bit like Andrew Bird, Jack White and Beirut blended together, but going deeper you’ll find some excellent tunes that people immediately fall in love! With their debut album “Odd Hugo” released in spring of 2013, they have taken their voices, strings and brass across the Baltic states, Germany, Hungary, Finland, Sweden and played among others at Fusion Festival, Positivus, Art Goes Kapakka, Lost In Music Festival and Valoa Festival. ODD HUGO's self-titled album was also nominated for best debut album of 2013 at the Estonian Music Awards 2014. In April the band went on a Germany-Netherlands tour where they played 9 shows including a main stage performance at Hidden Treasures Festival. in 17th of April Odd Hugo won the "Skype Go Cange The World Award 2014"- best act at Tallinn Music Week - chosen by international delegates! Currently they are working on new material and hopefully start to record in the summer. The Line of Best Fit, a UK-based online music magazine: "A band that seem set to follow in the footsteps of their countrymen Ewert and the Two Dragons, Estonia five piece Odd Hugo offer an askew slant on indie folk, with tracks like ‘These Grey Fields’ carrying a sound that’s both familiar and new. Fans of Beirut will find something to enjoy from their brassed-up arrangements." Nils Bernstein, Matador Records: "I thought Odd Hugo were fantastic at Tallinn Music Week; of all the bands I saw, I think they probably have the most potential for success outside Estonia. The guys are incredibly talented, great players and songwriters." Odd Hugo is quite rightly one of the brightest hopes of Estonian music as Nathan Westley puts it in Crack Magazine. “It became clear within seconds why they had previously sent pulses racing; tight and with a keen ear for a melody, they have all the hallmarks of a band that wouldn’t be out of place on a middle-tiered slot on Later With Jools Holland,” Westley adds and compares them to The National and Tom Waits. Jan Sneum:“For me it’s a charming mix of Tartu and Texas.” Listen to our album on Spotify, Deezer or Itunes! https://play.spotify.com/album/7nGRAnAAYbPiqqbUZU6MQO http://www.deezer.com/en/album/6809277
