About Odd Opera

ODD Opera was founded in 2005 by Michelle Righetti. Its first production was in the same year: The Canadian and World Debut of the contemporary opera "Violetta" by Michelle Righetti.

ODD Opera was created as a canvas on which to bring to life a vision of working without the boundaries of genres. For us, music exists in moods and expressions. These definitions assist us to recognize and understand the music we hear, but we do not believe that music needs to exist merely in the boxes that defines it. A genre describes only some of the facets of a musical approach or temperament. But, just like so much of the human emotional experience exists between definable moods, so much of the musical experience exists in between the lines used to define it. We believe that music is meant to awaken the senses, to put shivers on the soul. It is meant to open hearts to unique moments of vulnerability and honesty. It is meant to play with, and to bring its participants to magical moments of innocence and belief in the impossible. It is meant to allow us all to be very, very old and wise souls. Also, it is meant to allow us to return to our childhoods. It is a journey onto itself. It is love. It is undefinable.

These same principles apply to Dance, Theatre, Film, Visual Art and Performance. ODD Opera works in collaboration with artists from these fields, in a mission to express creative ideas and tell meaningful stories in new and unrestricted ways. ODD Opera's artists and guests are diverse in their training, approach and talents. Most importantly, they approach their work with an open mind and an open heart.

In addition to working with new combinations of forms of art, ODD Opera is the creator and facilitator of workshops, coachings and collaborative projects that are open to any interested participant. By participating in these forums- led by innovative professionals in their respective fields, participating artists can enhance their own repertoire and approach as well as learn new skills in fields such as dance, stage performance, acting, film, recording and visual art.

If you are an artist, in any discipline, and would like to participate in one of our future projects or workshops, please contact us.
