The Mattoid

Finnish guru, THE MATTOID, is a bonafide mondo-bizarro rocker of Music City's vibrant and overflowing independent music scene. A self described comedian, he often refers to his work as "polka business." Often polarizing and always provoking, he has been described as hilarious, irreverent, rockin, scary, sweet, intimidating, loud, serious, aloof, clever, catchy, stupid, near and dear and way WAY out there. On one night, you might catch him playing a show on a lark and the next time you catch a performance, he'll be backed by musicians from some of Nashville's finest bands. His recordings are also a different experience. They are beechwood aged, meticulously crafted, freak-folk, pop-rock, gems that are often passed up by people who see a show and think, "too weird." His latest release, THE GLORY HOLY, was recorded at John Vanderslice’s Tiny Telephone studio in San Francisco by engineer Jay Pellicci (Deerhoof, Erase Erata), and finished in The Mattoid’s current home base of Nashville, TN with members of Silver Jews, Clem Snide, Lambchop, and Bobby Bare Jr.’s Young Criminals Starvation League. Local imprint, Infinity Cat Recordings (home of JEFF, Cakebake Betty, MEEMAW, and more!) has released THE GLORY HOLY for the world to enjoy!
