About Ugly Mac Beer

Originally known as DJ Diess, Ugly Mac Beer shakes for over 20 years the French scratch scene with passion and skill. Since his beginnings in the 90s within the hip hop collective La Formule, alongside JC who later became Wax Tailor, until his early productions, the launch of his label or the opening of his shop, the parisian producer and turntablist has consistently fed his passion for turntables and vinyls, with blows of nomatic scratch sessions and intensive digging, during which he improves his freestyle skills and builds up a strong musical culture. After several participations in the famous DMC championships in the late nineties, he launches in collaboration with his friend JC Le Saoût his first breakbeat record, ‘Breaking The Waves Vol. 1’, which will become a reference and will be quickly followed by volumes 2 and 3, and set up his own label dedicated to breakbeat, which he names naturally Diess Prod. A name whose growing acclaim persists until today, as it is synonymous with high quality and recognized know-how by top connoisseurs. After his meeting with Mister Modo in one of the most famous record shops in the capital, things start speeding up for Ugly Mac Beer. The two serial sound-diggers, united by their addiction to vinyls, B movies and old horror films, gore and science fiction as an option, but also to cinematographic instrumentations and others dark and captivating soundtracks, open a first shop in 2002. And necessarily, as genuine killing sample spotters, they end up producing a whole slew of vinyls with incisive beats and hard-hitting groove, whose the famous series 'Modonut' and its heady track 'Not Afraid', widely playlisted by Radio Nova, while producing the cream of turntablism and rap from Paris to New York. In more than 15 years of activity, Diess Prod, renamed in the meantime Beatsqueeze Records, has released and reissued over sixty albums, EPs, breakbeat LPs and mythic records. The crazy duo mixes music genres, epochs and trends with an insane energy and distinctive feel for crate-digging, and thus for several years now production companies request them regularly to set to music all types of audiovisual projects. While Mister Modo perfectly manages the shop and its regular restocking with masterpieces from all sides, Mac Beer ensures the development of the label, while expanding his activities to sync (advert and TV) for 2 years. With the soul of a child, his insatiable curiosity when it comes to pick up the rare sample, his talents as a producer and a sharp turntablist, Mac Beer is one of those artists who renew the scratch scene with overflowing freshness, originality and creativity. One just needs to see the videos of his urban adventures in Paris and more recently in London, equipped with his portable turntable and his vinyls, to quickly realize that he knows his stuff incredibly well. Next step for the tireless pair, the release by the end of the year of an exclusively instrumental project, announced as a cinematic concept album, halfway between composition of an original soundtrack and meticulous exploration of a wide music library in seventies, rather like Madlib revisited in 2003 the prestigious Blue Note jazz catalogue with 'Shades of Blue'. An album which will combine dark and classy atmosphere, vintage samples and inspirational arrangements, whose narrator will be no other than Mike Ladd, American rapper based in Paris, producer and poet adept of spokenword whose brilliant beginnings in the late 90s brought him immediately to be compared to Gil Scott-Heron... Might as well say heavy, very heavy sound ! To be continued... F*** MP3 KEEP DIGGIN!!
