I had not heard of Sue Foley and sorry for that...more for me then you. Wonderful show and looking forward to next visit. Loved the legends but, no not a but, would of loved more of you. Final number, Hurricane Woman sent us home humming. Found you as my wife of 24 years has been pressuring me lately for date nights. I have resisted valiantly, which is to say I ignored her requests. Then I thought better of that tactic and searched for whats happening around Ottawa. Sue Foley? Blues singer, yes.
Thank you for your performance. Date night was a big hit....Brian

Absolutely astounding! 11 out of 10! Sue and her bandmates really hit this one out of the park! So much energy and passionate guitar playing. A masterclass in classical and electric guitar! We’ll definitely be going back to see her when she’s back touring!

SATURDAY NIGHT at The Oakville Theatre for the Performing Arts. — we saw Sue Foley.
I don’t know how we missed her until now, we didn’t know her or her music but the ads were intriguing and we love blues guitar. What an epic experience! This teeny tiny, ginger haired, pixie spitfire simply shredded it. She can really play and sing the blues either solo or with her back up boys. I didn’t know what to expect but it wasn’t this incredible performer with mad skill and a sultry, strong blues voice.
She pays homage to the early women blues guitarists and displayed real diversity in musical styles and her accomplished playing speaks of a lifetime commitment to her craft. Check her out. Oh, and she’s Canadian.

What a fantastic performance! Sue opened the show solo acoustic playing cuts from One Guitar Woman (30min). After a short break Sue returned to the stage with her band for a 90 min plugged in set with cuts mainly from her her last 4 albums. Great opportunity to see her in a small intimate venue.

First, the venue. The Rio is small enough that any seat seems to be a good seat. The bathroom is genderless, which raised a few eyebrows because the stall doors aren't as private as they could be. Everyone needs to have good manners and avert their eyes whilst awaiting their turn.
The show was amazing. It was our first time seeing Sue Foley, but it won't be our last. She started with several solo songs on acoustic guitar and her skill and talent were immediately apparent. Everything from great finger style blues to flamenco, with very obvious proficiency in each style. Then she brought out the band and cranked it up. Unfortunately, the vocals were lost to the volume of the instruments, and that volume just seemed to increase for the rest of the evening. Nobody in the band was reaching for the volume dials on their amps, so I'd have to guess that the sound person was edging things upward as the show progressed. Or maybe my ageing ears just can't last like they used to. Either way, I think a little less volume would have made for a better experience.
Sue's skill level on electric guitar is also quite evident. I can't say she's the best guitar player I've ever heard, but I'd be thrilled to be anywhere near her level. She's playing fills, solos, and rhythm simultaneously, which is no easy feat, so I think she tends to lose her way ever so slightly at times, before continuing with the next delicious phrases. Truly a great performance all round.

The Sue Foley show at the Stoughton Opera House on November 2, 2024 was absolutely awesome! The Stoughton Opera House is a beautiful and intimate venue with nostalgic ambiance, comfortable seating and wonderful acoustics! Sue Foley is such a talented blues guitar player! She started her show with a solo acoustic set, playing songs from her latest CD One Woman, One Guitar. Her selections from the album provided a variety of styles from legendary female blues guitarists. After a short intermission, she returned to the stage with her bass player, her drummer, and "pinky", her electric guitar. Together the trio treated us to a jammin' electric set with a variety of selections from Sue's blues career. Sue Foley is one of my very favorite blues performers and I try to get to every one of her shows within a reasonable distance of my home in the twin cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Thank you, Sue for the wonderful show and I hope to see you again soon!

Wow! Sue Foley and band did it again! This is a MUST SEE show - run, do not walk to get tickets! If you don’t know Foley: you will end the night charmed by her persona, singing her lyrics, consumed by her powerful and emotional guitar playing and impressed by the authentic performance. If you already know and appreciate her music: she is on fire on this tour, the band is tight, the guitar sings, screams, cries and never lets go of you. And you never want the show to end. Foley delivers what we all want from a live show and does it with high energy, tremendous skill, tone, soul and groove; tons of tone, soul and groove. Penner on bass and Hunter on drums are stars; the venue was just rocking with their rhythm and groove.
This is the best live show I’ve seen all year. I am scrambling to see her again before she ventures too far afield.
Thank you Sue Foley, Penner and Hunter for giving us such an awesome evening. And thanks to Jimmy’s for providing such an excellent venue.
And thank you, Sue Foley for the impromptu vibrato lesson and advice; I appreciate you!

Not enough stars to rate this show! Actually 2 shows...first she did an acoustic set and talked about her tribute album to the female guitar greats. Then we got to experience the debut of her new band The Pistolas. They added to her already megawatt energy. Blown away, hair parted, pinned to the wall fell off the chair, spilled my drink, done and done! Sue at the Kessler...always magic.

Wonderful experience all the way around!
Sue Foley has been on my must-see list for some time, and she did not disappoint. Her One Guitar Woman show is a tribute to women who blazed a trail in the blues, and Sue's show was a mixture of engaging stories of these women and soulful playing and singing. Her nearly 90-minute set flew by, with no dead spots anywhere. After the show, Sue was graciously available to chat with fans, sign autographs, and take pictures.
The HopMonk Tavern was wonderful as well. The venue is easy to find and has lots of parking around it. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and their Session Room was comfortable, giving a great view of the stage.
I would definitely see Sue Foley again (in fact, I did see her again the following night), and I would visit the HopMonk Tavern again to see one of the artists I follow.

Sue have a great set of songs by women artists who have influenced her, with short background chats about the why & how of each. Her music was soulful, diverse—from Segovia classical, flamenco, to 1920s/30s period blues, to a single electric rendition of Hurricane Girl. I would recommend anyone who loves the blues to catch her. I heard she appears regularly with Jimmy Vaughan at C Boys on South Congress. The two times I’ve seen her before we’re with Vaughan also, so obviously a good fit. Authentic Austin at play.

Awesome show! Master guitarist and storyteller!
At one point Sue lost her pick - had we not seen it go flying, we would have never known - she didn't miss a beat! Had a meet and greet after the show - Sue was super personable!
Hope she's able to come back to Ontario again soon - maybe the Busholme in Erin?

Excellent show! A very talented musician with a varied repertoire of styles and songs and a very down to earth stage presence. I hadn’t heard of Sue before this show. Now that I’ve seen her, I’ll definitely try to catch her live again sometime

This was a great show! Sue and her band covered all the bases including some solo acoustic songs. Sue Foley is extremely versatile and it shows in the range of music performed. Her solos on guitar screamed blues, her vocals were great, and the evening just sailed by. The bass player and drummer were major contributors to the great sound. And Nolan Hubbard was a great opening act!
It was an evening very well spent!

Fantastic! Was able to sit in the front row & Sue was not even on a raised stage. Was mesmerized by her finger work on her guitars. I've never had the pleasure of watching a musician play a guitar so up close. I am not the least bit musically inclined, so it was a real joy to be able to watch a master at work. A very intimate stage & theatre setting. It was like having Sue & her band perform in someone's home. I especially liked Sue's stories & songs on her acoustic guitar when it was just her voice & the guitar notes. The only dislike I have of "modern" music is how loud the instruments are played. I understand that the amplified music is powerful, but for such a small venue, I think it would have worked just as well at half the sound volume. Especially when Sue sings her songs ... I can never make out her words over the music. If it's just the incredible string of notes & drum beats & guitar strums that she & her band put together seamlessly, the higher volume is fine. But when it comes to song parts, I'd love to hear more of Sue's voice & words & less of the instruments at full volume. But I just turned 65, so what can I say? I'm an old, curmudgeonly senior citizen now!! LOL I've only seen Sue perform once before and that was several years ago in a local pub in Red Deer & she was amazing then & still remains a truly gifted female guitarist, singer, song-writer & bluesy gal!! A true professional artist! I do not envy her travels on the road, though. That cannot be a lot of fun ... flying here, flying there, sitting in airports & hotel rooms & being away from her home in Austin. But I guess that is how musicians make their way in the world & pay the bills & become famous, so I wish her continued success. If her tours do not take her away from home for too long at a time, I suppose it can be a bit exciting. And she obviously loves her guitar, her music & her fans to allow her to continue to be creative & entertaining. Loved the show, love Sue!

As always, the Edmonton Blues Festival is a magnificent venue with up close and personal access to world class acts.
This was the first time I have seen Sue Foley and she blew me away!
Long, beautiful solos and absolute control of her telecaster.
I will be sure to see her again anytime I can!
She plays effortlessly and sings with emotion and can play rhythm behind the horn section all night long.
That is me right up front loving every minute!
