About José Dias | jazz
JOSÉ DIAS
[guitar, compostion, researcher] studied at the Hot Club Jazz School. He has worked with numerous jazz, world music and pop musicians. Under his PhD in Ethnomusicology at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, he's developing research on jazz in Europe. He also performs with Magenta trio, with a new record to be released very soon.
The Jose Dias Quartet is developing a unique sound in Portuguese contemporary jazz.
The project deviates from the traditional language of jazz, and explores the dialogue between various contemporary sound universes, where experimentation is assumed as a central element. The four musicians - José Dias, Moisés Fernandes, Pedro Pinto and Rui Pereira - are part of the emerging new generation of Portuguese jazz, and have worked alongside various international jazz and world music musicians. They've performed with David Murray in Lisbon in July 2012 and recently recorded their debut album 360.
360 is now available for free download at www.sintomarecords.com
